Where in the World Isn't Bob Saget?

I don't care for malls, and haven't been to one in probably 10 years. If I need to buy something, I'll go to stand-alone stores (example: Target, Kohls, etc.), or I'll find what I need online. The only other stores I go occasionally, are independent little shops in various locations.

That said, @SteveBrickNJ , I think malls are good for you and your wife for walking, in colder weather. I know that's a welcome activity for quite a few people, who want some exercise -- just not outdoors in winter. (I love the cold outdoors, but we all know I'm crazy! :p)

I hear you. We are supposed to get some freezing rain today and part of me is wishing the timeline was later for a possible late start tomorrow but that's not going to happen.
I've started waking up around 8:00 the past couple days. I wake up at 5:40 on school days. 🙃

And usually we only go back on a short week, but this year it's a full-blown 5 days.

I took all my Christmas stuff down this morning. A few days ago, I was ready, but I always leave it up until after the New Year. Then the past couple days, I've been indifferent. I decided I didn't want to wait until next weekend, so I pulled the plug and took it down as soon as I got out of bed.

We've had a rough start to 2026. My mother-in-law passed away yesterday morning. She's been having episodes for the last year when she wakes up, and she basically passes out. Her blood sugar sky rockets, her oxygen level plummets, and her blood-pressure goes through the roof. They rush her to the hospital and get her on oxygen and she'd stabilize. But they couldn't get her stabilized yesterday and she didn't make it.

Then this morning, my father-in-law wasn't feeling well and started to shake, which isn't completely abnormal, because he has parkinsons. But it got really bad, and they checked his oxygen and it was around 60, and his heart rate was around 200. So he was rushed to the hospital. After doing some tests, they discovered he has the flu and pneumonia. They have him on oxygen and antibiotics, but they admitted him for at least tonight.

So we're trying to juggle funeral plans with hospital visits. Thank goodness my employer was amazing and worked it out so that I don't have to work until Saturday. The funeral is Friday. So I have the whole week to get everything done.

The boys and I were planning to start taking things down Wednesday, but we need to make 15 pounds of kielbasa, 7 pounds of turkey cranberry sausage (not going to be fun as it's a new recipe, so make a 1 pound batch, cook a small piece and hope any adjustments are easy for the rest) and about 20 jars of chocolate raspberry jam. Next weekend works for taking things down.

Sorry to hear about the passing of your mother-in-law. I hope your father-in-law is able to be released from the hospital soon. Seems like the flu in particular, is a stronger strain this year.

We have two full weeks, then a PD day on the 19th, which I always consider a day off. It'll be half PD (morning) and worktime for report cards in the afternoon.
We have a PD/work day on the 19th too. For years it was solely a teacher work day but the last couple years the administration has snuck in other meetings and trainings. It would be nice just to have a work day again.

I feel like once a month teachers just need a work day. Those are the days where I am able to get organized from the chaos of day to day life. My desk is usually a disaster until those days, because I have no time to organize anything during the normal day. Just yesterday I was thinking of some ways to keep myself more organized.

That would be so nice to have a work day once a month, or at least once a quarter. The January one always made me feel refreshed and confident to the start of the next semester because everything was organized and I felt like I had time to craft some really excellent lessons.

My desk is usually well organized, I like everything in its place there because sometimes the rest of the room is not.

I hope to have my report cards done before that day, so I can spend the afternoon organizing and rearranging some things.
