MK Cars-Themed Attractions at Magic Kingdom

I’m glad you saw the humor!

I actually don’t agree though - country bears was just updated - splash was just updated - big thunder is almost done.
not to mention Shootin' Arcade becoming DVC....After Frontireland's done, Frontierland will be considered "done" for the foreseeable future. Pretty-much everything's changed.

I'm just surprised they didn't make Pecos Bill a Tiana-esq place.

They've closed most/all of several Lands several times before:

Disneyland:
Adventureland/Frontierland: c.1962
Tomorrowland: 1966
Fantasyland: 1982
Tomorrowland again: 1997

MK:
Tomorrowland: 1993
I don't think it's very fair to compare the 80s and 90s (especially the 60s) to now. Attendance has increased massively since then, not to mention the movement of guests and what they expect or demand is very different.

The Speedway will probably be about as visually disruptive to redo as the Rivers, but I’m also imagining that, depending on what they build, the timeline might be shorter as a result of less land prep.
It's a mock-freeway.... that's been downsized several times....not a beautiful vista.

It was cool in 1955 b/c freeways were relatively new. It was cool in 1971 b/c racing was "en vouge."

Like ten of millions of others over 70+ years, my first drive was in an autopia-like car....but....even assuming they'd put-up walls like they did along the former rivers I will not mourn the closure of this attraction (presuming something really nice goes in its place).

They've done similar in Tokyo....and seem to be about to COMPLETELY replace their Adventureland.

But to be fair again I also know OLC runs differently to begin with...but I'd hope for an outright land closure to make sure "it's done right"

Personally I don't see it happening in WDW's MK, but I'm hoping it happens for Disneyland's Tomorrowland soon.

Thinking "long-term" and "big-picture"

I just said the visual disruption of the construction walls and the numerous views over the walls would be as bad with Speedway as it is with Rivers because, similarly, it's nestled in the middle of a lot of attractions, some of which look down into it unobstructed. I didn't mean that Rivers and Speedway are equivalently beautiful.

If the name "Frontierland" is still a thing when this project is completed, I will be very surprised.

I agree though without going into too much detail I do think there is some political motivation as well.
While I don’t disagree that there is some political motives behind it, I would also argue that wouldn’t a retheme of Old Man Island at Port Orleans be equally up for grabs and unquestionably easier

Yeah, other than Space Mountain, Tomorrowland in Disneyland needs FAR more help than our Tomorrowland does. Not that I think current management could or would do it successfully.
They are both in bad shape. At least Florida doesn’t have a closed attraction rotting in plain site.

As soon as rocket rods wasn’t coming back they should have designed a cosmetic train to operate on the line for kinetic energy at least. That’s what universal did with the suess trolley.

I wouldn’t say ours is in bad shape. Buzz and COP are getting big upgrades, Peoplemover, AO, TRON are great. Space mt would hopefully be next after BTM reopens. Speedway, MILF and empty SGE are the biggest issues and even the LF is still a decent show.

I don't think it was political at all. They wouldn't tear up their theme park and put walls up for what will be YEARS with political motivations. If that were at all the case, you'd see the same thing (or at least pressure to do so) in the other parks with "Frontier" theming. And it's not just Disney, either. Most theme/amusement parks have a "western" or "frontier" themed area.

I agree - they could have easily themed the whole thing to bayou country and just leave big thunder as a random western corner.

I realize this wouldn’t happen but if they did that they could have rethemed Tom Sawyer to a rescuers adventure of sorts!

Tom Sawyer is the main reason why I think there might be some political motivation.

That was super easy to rename / retheme if needed.

There were 2 caves on the smaller island right? Keep the small island - make both caves meet and greets - sell cupcakes at old aunt Polly’s and boom…. Making money + a constant line for those rafts.
there are some insensitive words in Huck Finn. After the "Splash" fiasco which was largely guilt by association, I can understand why they want to distance themselves from the Tom and Huck aside from the bigger more obvious reason of paid fast pass sales, accessibility and of course popular IP.
