News Gideon's Bakehouse May Be Cooking Up New Venture at Disney Springs

The coffee cake cookie and peanut butter cookie are good, but the other cookies have way too much stuff on them. I actually can’t stand the chocolate chip cookie. I like cookies where you can actually taste the cookie part of the cookie. But that’s just me.

The theming is fantastic. And the peanut butter cold brew is absolutely fabulous!
Idk why people say they can't taste the dough on the chocolate chip, i've been eating them since well before the springs location opened and i definitely can. Are people just like eating the top and then throwing out the middle and bottom? Their cookies and cream cookie is also really good and the Frankenstein and bride of Frankenstein are annual traditions for me at this point.

I think location made it suffer. The concept is not new or unpopular tho. It likely would've done better at a resort. Look at a place like Hook's Barbery on DCL. Lots of guys go for high end shaves and cuts. I do.
It wasn't even a bad location - just that the price wasn't great except for targeting a particular range of tourist.
I miss when it was Downtown Disney and the bus would loudly tell you "AND BE SURE TO VISIT BONGOS HOSTED BY GLORIA AND EMILIO ESTEFAN!"
Probably because it simply wasn't that popular!
I also think a remote location from the main store for in-app/online purchases with scheduled (controlled) pickup times would be wildly popular, similar to the stand they have for Voodoo Doughnut across the way at Universal. I could see this location possibly working for both at once/
I'm surprised Voodoo is making enough money nowadays at that location - their donuts have shrunk significantly over time and their prices have increased, but people still seem to have lines out the door every time I'm at Citywalk. Which, as you noted, necessitates the stand. Kinda crazy, and even crazier that this isn't what is happening in Springs.

Springs doesn't need yet another bar. At all.

Yay! More not-even-half-baked lumps of cookie dough delivered by min-wage drama club flunkouts with a weird “If Tim Burton Made Harry Potter” aesthetic.

Just what Disney Springs needs!

Just hop over to Kroger for a tube of pillsbury. It’s better quality and much more wallet-friendly.
Pilsbury is by no means better quality...a tube of corn syrup and chemicals....wallet friendly, yes, but whether you like Gideon's cookies or not, the quality is not necessarily in question... They used to sell cookies at the old Marketplace in Downtown Disney ( it was years and years ago) and they were pretty much the same style as Gideons... a giant lump of soft-baked dough... Not my favorite style of cookie.... but the business is interesting, some of our friends love them, so we always stop and get a few for them and a coffee for me ...

I wonder if ghostsofgideons, that former employee on Instagram is going to make any comments about the new project. If I remember correctly they seemed to disappear after Gideon's response.

It's a little Gothic but that isnt the same art style as Giddeon's. It's a lot more modern and angular. It does look familiar, like I've seen those designs on stickers or shirts at concerts or something. Possibly a skateboard and apparel company.
Did you have a read of the article? The new space is being leased by the owner of Gideons, and will not be a skateboard or apparel company.

They seemed to disappear when the internet collectively laughed at them for trying to bring light to a possible serious labor issue… while writing in the persona of a Gideons Bakehouse character.

Would be like someone writing a protest about WDW not dealing fairly with labor unions…while writing in the persona of Roz.

“Furthermore, Management has refused to come to the negotiating table. Well, now isn’t that special?”

EDIT - And apparently they made the Internet angry when they demanded a mandatory 7.5% Gratuity on every sale.
Eesh. No, you’re not a table service server, you just put half-baked cookie dough into bags.

This was the problem more than anything else! The gratuities (and mandatory ones at that), stores are putting in are nuts. Just raise wages and don't add on a tax for the consumer after the fact, especially because it distorts the cost of the good or service in question. Not to mention fast food and other services asking for tips - my hairdresser outright asked for a cash tip when I saw her a few months ago! And she is far from the only time in the past year I was asked (or prompted by a screen) to add one... Not the kind of things most people will support.

If I had to guess I bet they are doing a coffee shop with maybe some other types of baked goods to separate the cookie crowds.
Based on the January announcement of new things, I'm 100% convinced that Morsels is going to be apart of the new location. Steve's announcement read like it was the beginning of something bigger, but low-key at the same time. I'm not sure what the entire menu will be at this location, but a handpie could easily be considered a Morsel, as well as other things like cookie bites, ice box pies, and pastries they've offered in the past at their main locations.

It might be simpler if they just had cookies at Gideon's and everything else in the new location from cake slices to snack bites to cold brews, but I'm not sure they want to separate it like that.

If you noticed that still doesn't stop places from raising their prices anyways. And FYI - those tips that you give don't have to be paid to employees unless they say they are going to employees. They are legally allowed to go to the place of business otherwise.
