Just another feat of amazing Disney Imagineering that will NEVER be deployed for the general guest experience.

Iger will talk about it in the next quarterly report ;)

Disney Research has released a more detailed look at the self-walking Olaf:

This little guy is amazing! Hoping that they find a way to incorporate him into the park experience. The real trick will be keeping fans from touching him, our front to hug him, etc.

Will be interesting to see if they are working on any other characters like this. I wonder which other Disney characters are designed in such a way that this type of robotic system is possible?

They had a Groot character they showed off a couple years ago.

This is but another one of those things that would make Jollywood Nights much more rewarding and worthwhile. Pretty dang cool robotics system. TDO needs more of THIS. Gives me hope for WDI but then so rarely do guests actually get to enjoy this kind of stuff in the parks. Hope it eventually makes it to Orlando.

If this tech keeps advancing, in both the 2 and 4 foot varieties, I wish that they would use something like this for an “animal” trail in Pandora. It doesn’t even have to be a long trail. It just has to be long enough to have a few of the smaller fauna from Pandora. I know it would be a challenge to pull off, but to have AAs that can be programmed to do multiple things to appear more randomized in their movements and activities would be fantastic. This could mirror the trails in the other parts of the park, providing information about the different animals you are observing.

You two do realise Olaf is coming to WDS and Hong Kong next year?

Has Disney ever considered they're making it harder on themselves by making such cute things everyone wants to hug?
I think that is the whole point. If you didn't want to hug it is it really worth it having these walking around the Parks?

Or take home and use as their butler...
You can always get one of these instead -

It seems like lots of wdi budget goes to photo op / press releases like these that end up getting cut after a short season.

Lucky the Dino, muppet mobile lab, Remy the rat, talking Mickey at MK - these were all popular with guests weren’t they?

I know the only reason I paid to eat at chefs was to “meet the new chef” - and it was worth it!
