Dreamfinder’s Imagineering Art Gallery - Imagineering Weekends 2025

Inspired by all the wonderful creations he saw on these Imagineering forums, Dreamfinder has decided to start an art gallery themed around Armchair Imagineering, but before he can open the gallery, he needs to fill up the three wings of the museum, and that’s where you come in! Starting at midnight and ending on the 7th, three loose prompts will be posted that anyone can submit anything visual they made to, whether it be physical or digital, 2D or 3D, as long as you made it! At the end of each round I, the museum’s curator, will provide feedback on and give silly little awards to all the submissions, think of it like the One Sentence Competition, except the focus is on the visuals and the overall community effort. When the weekend is over, everything will be compiled into a Google Doc that will act as a gallery of the community’s creations.

The museum is looking for a wide variety of works, so generally anything will be accepted as long as it follows the constraints of the prompt, and the following rules:

  1. No Primarily Written Submissions: Creative writing is great, but the focus of this event is visual design. Titling your work, giving it a description, and including limited text in your image are all allowed and encouraged, however.
  2. Absolutely No Generative AI: The gallery is looking to showcase all of your efforts, not the work of math algorithms (unless robots become sentient, then I will bow down to our mechanical overlords).

A tip before I post the first prompt, the gallery is focused on showcasing the unique creative visions of the whole community, so if you’re reserved about submitting because you’re not confident in your own skill, don’t be! This exercise is meant to be fun, so whether you’re a professional illustrator or have never tried working in a visual medium before, Dreamfinder and I look forward to seeing your submissions to the gallery!

The Character Wing
There’s no denying the importance of character design in art, as while the world of OCs and character fanart that’s developed on the internet isn’t very prestigious, it is most certainly accessible. As far as the primary topic of these forums go, making memorable characters is a big part of Disney’s (and Universal’s) empire, whether it be everlasting cartoon characters like Mickey Mouse, or memorable theme park mascots such as Dreamfinder himself! All that’s just a lot of talk to get us into what should ultimately be a simple prompt.

Any work submitted to this wing must depict a character who has appeared in a theme park before

Tips From The Curator:
  • I purposely phrased this prompt in a very open ended way, so feel free to feature theme park original characters, IP characters that have shown up in rides, or heck even characters that originated from this forum if you’re desperate to make some Volcano Bat fanart.
  • One character is the minimum, but not the maximum, so feel free to include multiple characters in your work if you think you can handle it.
  • Be creative! To reiterate, as long as your work follows the museum’s two big rules, it can be in whatever medium you like.
Submissions to this wing are due at 12:00 AM EST Saturday

That would be a wrap, but given the small pool of submissions I’m gonna bring in a sudden switch up to the format. It was kinda silly of me to make the event so fast paced given the more casual weekends formula (especially given that this isn’t even a competition), so I’m gonna post the remaining prompts soon and leave them all open to submissions for the remainder of the week so the Art Gallery can be the best version of itself.

The Attraction Wing
While characters make up a big part of the art world, works focused on places might just have them beat, so let’s step into the background and kick it up a notch in the scale department. Works focusing on nature and cities tend to get all the love when it comes to this category, but we’ll be getting a little more specific to the focus of the Imagineering forum with this one!

Any work submitted to this wing must depict an amusement park attraction of the artist’s choosing

Tips From The Curator:
  • You and I probably have different opinions on what constitutes as an attraction, but to allow for a wider array of potential topics, I’ll define it as anything you can actively do in a park for the sake of this prompt.
  • Realism is not necessarily key. If you wanna submit a picture perfect recreation of an attraction exactly as it currently is, then you are more than welcome to do so, but if you’d rather take the core concept of an attraction and abstract it into something new, then that’s also valid.
The Imagination Wing
We’ve focused on all of your takes on pre-existing elements of theme parks for the previous two prompts, so I think it’s time we get back to the core goal of these forums, creating something brand new!

Any work submitted to this wing must depict a totally new ‘thing’ (character, attraction, or otherwise) to be added to a pre-existing park of the artist’s choosing

Tips From The Curator:
  • We’re going totally Blue Sky with this one! Wanna design a new mascot for an old ride? Go for it! Wanna make a schematic of your dream coaster? Go for it! Wanna design a new bathroom for Toy Story Land? Well I don’t know why you’d wanna do that but go for it!
  • I left this prompt especially open ended to encourage a diversity in submissions, but if you’re finding it a little too vague, then think of an idea for an Armchair Imagineering concept you already had, then think of how you could communicate that pitch through a visual medium, a picture says a thousand words after all.
  • While I did say submissions had to be totally new, I’ll allow anything that expands on a previous Armchair Imagineering project as long as you solely made that project, and the work you’re submitting was made specifically for this event.
Submissions to ALL wings are now due at 12:00 AM EST Monday

Wound up doing these more as fun sketches than full drawings like I had planned, but still always fun doing some art and putting pencil to paper

Did I draw Spaceship Earth? No! Tricked you! I drew the finale to Soarin'

I think I drew this same gag for a competition a long time ago, but oh well. It's a little scene to put in Toontown. A play on the old trope of a business being closed with a sign that says "Gone Fishin' " with this being a silly inversion of an idyllic lake with fish swimming in it and fishing gear all set up, but a sign hangs on the edge of the fishing chair that reads "Gone Workin' " as just a simple little gag for guests to enjoy.

The last drawing reminded me of this…
