News Happily Ever After fireworks show returning to Magic Kingdom in 2023

Behind-the-scene of the use of Proteus Hybrid, Proteus Brutus and Proteus Excalibur during Happily Ever After fireworks show. It is also used for subsequent all Magic Kingdom firework shows since 2024, including post-August 2022 version of Disney Enchantment, which currently use for After Hours events only (originally regular show for 50th anniversary).

They're also used during Disney Starlight when the parade is in the hub. They frame the castle beautifully and help create a wonderful backdrop for the parade.

Nostalgia is a powerful thing.

Wishes was beloved, but the show would be a bore for a new generation compared to HEA.
Don't use Wishes and "bore" in the same sentence. People today can still be entertained by something that lacks Frozen or Moana. Don't get me wrong, HEA is great—I teared up watching it with my niece and nephews over the closed but still present RoA on July 8 this summer. But Wishes with updated tech would be fantastic!

I’m older, Wishes was the second castle show I remember (FitS 25 is my first, I saw the original FitS at 5 years old but it never made a lasting memory on me, unlike Illuminations) and I always thought it was an inferior show. Wishes was simply a bonus show you watched because you wanted to watch Spectro. The first castle show that wowed me was the vastly superior version of Wishes, DL’s Remember Dreams Come True. Since then a vast majority of shows I’ve seen are all vastly superior to Wishes (HEA, Enchantment, Hallowishes, Holiday Wishes, Spooktacular, Wonderful Christmastime, Halloween Screams, DL Forever, Wonderous Journeys, Tales of Magic) and only seen one show that is clearly worse (Mickeys Mix Magic.) It was a solid B show when it debuted and was quickly eclipsed after that. My family all feels the same way. I’ll join everyone on the nostalgia train for Spectro and ROE but you Wishes stans I just can’t understand.

Sorry for the rant but felt the need to bridge the generational divide.

Yes. It’s cool to watch once a year at NYE, but it is not as good as HEA.
I’m not sure what it is about HEA but I don’t really like it. It’s fine. But it’s probably my least favorite castle show. I know I’m in the minority and I’m not sure what it is that doesn’t do it for me.

It’s not a bad show of course - definitely some wonderfully moments - you can fly being particularly lovely.

What’s wrong with bringing it back for a limited time? It’s a great show! Same with illuminations.
Unfortunately it's highly unlikely Disney will ever return RoE to Epcot. Not just because of the cost, but because it represents an era of entertainment production for the company that, so I've been told by folks at DLE, they reject (for a number of reasons). Except when it comes to D23 events when they parade it out because it's a fan favourite.
