Lightning Lane at Walt Disney World

Not buying lighting lane is my “good start”

…i’m working on the rest…like a 12 step program. I said “No” to zootopia 2…and every other Disney release this year except for stitch…does that count? 🤔
All you’re doing is denying yourself. You’re not having any impact on the parks.

As you said, there are no “individuals” at WDW. Unless Disney stops selling the product or there’s some kind of organized boycott, individual decisions won’t matter.

For selfish reasons (there I go again, thinking only about myself!), I would hate for Disney to go that route. As for the standby lines, my understanding is that they’re moving at a pretty decent clip these days.
I think park operations made adjustments to keep standby moving more efficiently.

I agree that only offering Premier Pass would be harsh.

I don’t think amusement parks are for you…to be honest

Let alone what it does to those who will be there in the future and will actually need to maximize their time because they get one shot

There are no “individuals” in a Disney park…there never have been…there never will be
Why are theme parks not for people who like to wait less time? Saving 20 minutes per ride for 6 rides is 2 hours saved.

I’m actually most intrigued by what you mean by “there are no individuals”?

Something tossed around in Disney circles a lot is the idea that parks are really a “menu” where you tour with your preferences…

That’s not accurate…they operate on the mass model…which means all policies are formulated with a focus on maximum yield…

If things get accepted that are terrible for the consumers…rest assured they will be intent on homogenizing them.

In this instance…they are using line “skips” as a revenue source to account for their other products that are not doing as well…if we cut the crap. Lightly attended parks…empty food venues…crap retail…
All of those things would become worse.

That doesn’t mean an a la carte pricing system won’t be necessary at some point…but it’s really isn’t right now. That lighting lane revenue is a crutch for bad management to avoid doing the hard things: strengthening the parks. They’ve been overall stagnant for about 20 years…which is just how funny math can be🤔

I am ultra critical cause I just “hate” parks…of course…it’s not that I don’t want to see the day come where they are in serious bad shape.

I treat this current crop of Disney management like I treat the electorate. I won’t assume they’re smart because they repeatedly prove they are in fact dumb.

Armchair philosophy on a Saturday.

Of course their policies are made with the aim of making as much money as possible.

And obviously the LL system makes them “easy” money, which is going to make up for poor returns elsewhere.

Those things might well influence how some people tour the parks.

That does not mean that everyone has to do things your way. Your lecturing of people who choose a different type of park experience to your ideal is tiresome and dismissive.

Who felt stupid buying LL over the past week?

It’s probably the cold weather keeping everyone away…
Unless every single line is a walk on the entire day not sure how anyone would feel
Stupid as you say getting something that allows you access to skip the lines and walk right on. I keep asking yet noone seems to want to answer. We criticize people for spending a lousy 35$ on a skip the line system but dont blink an eye when someone shells out close to 1k a night for what?!? Make it make sense please.

Who’s excusing that? But you will eventually have to sleep SOMEWHERE 🤪

Bad decisions that actually affect everyone in the longterm are very tiresome and aloof.

Especially the ones I make….

But we won’t agree here. That’s cool.

Thats unfair to say & is not unique to Disney either. You can look at sporting events, concerts, movies, eating out etc. lets face it we both know people arent going to stop going in a sense where it truly causes damage Its a pipe dream. What does bother me is the fact they can build expand keep parks open later & bring back entertainment & everything else they have taken away and people will still pay up.

I haven’t been in many months but this reminded me of our horrible LL experience at HS a couple years ago and has me wondering if that wasn’t an underlying factor in why we skipped HS on our trip last year. A few years ago we only managed 1 good LL before everything was sold out, we left that night feeling completely ripped off, I’d forgotten until I read this post.

We skipped HS last trip because we didn’t feel it was worth the ticket price, now I’m wondering if we subconsciously factored our horrible LL experience into that decision… if so, that bad $30 LL (each) experience a couple years ago cost them an extra $300 night at POFQ, two $150 HS tickets, and probably $200 in food and drinks.

Wouldn’t take many people skipping a day ($800 loss) or entire trip ($thousands) to make a big dent in the extra income they make every time a guest buys LL. If it drives even 5% away it’s a long term losing proposition.

I’ve repeatedly questioned the sanity of anyone willing to pay rack rate at a Disney hotel.

Even the “ discounts” afforded to annual pass holders are a stretch.

That being said, my problem isn’t so much the price, It’s what you get at the hotels which is beyond substandard for deluxe level resorts.

This is the thing that Disney seems to miss, is that people will pay higher prices for a better product, but they’re not getting a better product if anything it’s going in the wrong direction…rapidly.

But hey, if the dusters and cupcake brigade get distracted by a shiny popcorn bucket or $30 cupcake, why should Disney change?

On the other hand if you read through these threads there are a lot of people who had very good success with LLs.

I was perfectly happy with free FP+ and wish it was still here. But we did very well using the LL system in our last few trips.
