that's pretty bad. Haven't been since the "revamp" but I remember lamenting while walking thru (2018), how overwhelmingly run-down my one-time favorite park had become😬 At least they got rid of those barges that never looked non-bad in any photos/videos? 🤷‍♂️ I don't know who was smoking what when the decision to add them was made! 🤯

I think....in-spite of all this....EPCOT is my new favorite park again ....but only "by default." It had shifted to Magic Kingdom many years ago because I thoroughly loved walking in/thru/around RoA area...but now....

...even here it's an imaginative exercise until I actually go, but between (what was formerly) Future World being universally-panned, and "adults still behaving badly" in World Showcase.....

*sigh*
The park has no reason to exist anymore other than to sell crap and make money (along with all the other parks to be fair). all the central pillars have been removed. Horizons-gone Reflections Of Earth-gone, Spaceship Earth - still there but a shadow of what it was. The soul of the place died with Reflections of Earth and I am still bothered by it half a decade later especially seeing as to what it has become.

A showcase of cultures, and countries around the world. Possibilities of the future in The land, Mission space, Test track, Spaceship earth, seabase, etc.

The concepts that it was formed around have been supplanted. Technology has advanced, views of and trips to other countries has become more common, sponsorships have changed. A lot of information is ubiquitous and available for immediate consumption. What hasn't changed are the masses still striving for everything with the lowest bars to entry for gratification. What passes for civilized behavior for lots of socioeconomic groups is questionable in its sustainability and contribution to global advancement.

I think there’s still something more compelling/inspiring about having concepts of global community and human achievement presented in experiential form. As Rohde puts it, the transformative power of adventure.

As long as they are complimentary. Some cultures continue their fight to remake others into replicas of their own.

I hope Disney will make Horizons 2.0 in Epcot! It's needed one since the last update too!
pitch idea, here me out, keep the out side of Mission Space but gut the inside, and behind it and the plot of land WOL is on put a ride that is effectively Horizons 2.0 with a space focus. idc if they wanna add an IP or not as long as the ride is long and well themed

I disagree, I do think the park has forgotten is should be a never ending world showcase, but I (and this is just my opinion) still prefer the current state of EPCOT then the 2010's version of outdated 90s stuff not taking care of, purple (just a lot of purple), and have of innovations being a ghost town. Personally as long as I get my fountain back in some form eventually and communicore hall gets a purpose I'll be happy. I think the park should be a celebration of the world, as it is and as we want it to be. personally in the next 10 years id want new figment, updated SSE, maybe a refresh or overhaul of Nemo or MS, a new pavilion in world showcase. and I will die on this hill I want coco in the Mexico pavilion. but as of today I still love the world showcase, love guardians and new test track, love land and seas, love the moana walk through surprisingly, and do like creations and connections. not to mention ratatouille. And to conclude my rant still think EPCOT is the best Disney park in Orlando. At least right now. but lets wait and see how the current expansions do/look

It has its moments, but at no moment superior to 1994.
I will admit a lot of the ascent now is a mixed bag. A lot of the ascent is still great despite a few bizarre creative choices I take issue with. The narration, music and descent are all jokes compared to the 94 version and I am surprised Nintendo has not sued Bruce Broughton for stealing the Metroid theme.

That's largely because after the Millenium Celebration, they really did not have a firm plan on how to proceed. I will admit they kept the 90s in-your-face/Innoventions aesthetic for too long. I prefer the 2010s version solely because Reflections of Earth was still going, the rest of the park was indeed in sad shape at that point but I don't think the current version solved that problem and likely just made it worse. The only credit I will give the current incarnation is the non-cemetery looking entrance.

I feel h*** will freeze over ... and give away free snowcones....before there's a Horizons 2.0 (but I too love to dream!)

Yes and yes! I WILL ALWAYS LOVE HORIZONS but even I admit that parts were feeling quite dated while riding it in the late 90's
The frustrating thing is a lot of these attractions/shows that are so fondly missed at EPCOT did have dated aspects that happens with everything especially in a futurism-based park. In my book things like Horizons, JII and ROE needed updates both technological and some creative ones to bring it in line with present times, not replaced outright. Of course it requires investment and spending and that is essentially kryptonite to Iger's Disney.

I honestly feel Spaceship Earth, Horizons, and World of Motion suffered from being a bit too samey, with the caveat that I obviously wasn't quite so discerning when I originally experienced them in my younger years. My memories of them all blurred together until I became interested in re-investigating what was actually in each of them later in life. At this point, I think Horizons would be much better served by being massively condensed into a more generic cameo as a renewed Spaceship Earth descent. Mission: SPACE should probably be replaced, but rebuilding Horizons isn't it.

Whereas my ideal park would be SSE, Horizons, World of Motion, and about 15 other rides in the same vein!

I don't think they were similar any more than Pirates and Haunted Mansion are similar, but it's obviously all subjective.
