Tiana's Bayou Adventure: Disneyland Watch & Discussion

That’s totally fair. Though I’m curious, what is it about Tiana’s that you like better than Splash? What do you feel made it an improvement over the other?
For me a couple things. I like party vibes this ride has over Splash which is a more traditional book report, which I’ve become kind of indifferent to. I also like Princess and the Frog as an IP, it’s one of my family’s favorites, so any time it gets something in the parks is a win. The only thing I felt was a true loss from Splash going away was Zip being removed as a park song.

Hey, I appreciate you sharing your thoughts. Genuinely helps me see why fans enjoy it. Thanks 👍🏻

I think the story with splash, whatever is was, was irrelevant because most riders couldn’t tell you what it was. With that out of the way, the musical score and tension building was masterful with splash. With Tiana the story is worse than trash , and the music is good but not as good as splash , so it’s a step down overall. They should have found a way to keep the score , removed all other references and characters from SOTS and given Tiana a different attraction altogether- problem solved

The only thing specific to SOTS was the soundtrack. The characters and storyline is centuries old.

Even that (the soundtrack) you can somewhat argue against, because a lot of the lyrics were rewritten specifically to fit the context of the ride scenes. Which, those scenes themselves (not even counting the included America Sings characters/figures) have been altered in various ways to differ from the stories as they’re portrayed in the film.

The way I always describe it, it was the most creative effort put into a plan IP based attraction while still incorporating the strengths of the IP. Too often today, we see attractions go in one direction or the other: an attraction or land that barely takes advantage of the IP’s strengths to the point where it might as well be completely original, or an attraction that is so derivative of the IP it’s based on that you might as well just watch the movie instead.

Splash was an attraction that was so well crafted, there was no reason to change anything (besides periodic technology upgrades). The experience was incredibly satisfying and fulfilling. But Iger era management has tunnel vision and can only think in binary. “If based on recent movie, ride = popular. If not, ride = unpopular”. They have the stats to show that this isn’t true, and yet they ignore them…just because.

People will ride any attraction. Disney can (and has) put in slides and swings from a neighborhood park and people will wait to ride them. All rides are popular no matter what IP they are based on.

Am I going crazy or is Louis missing in the Zydeco scene? Like even when the cameras stay straight ahead they can see him a bit

This part? You see him there, but he’s frozen:
