Yes they should make the entertainment schedules more readily available either on the website or on the app for those that want it, never said they shouldn't. But maybe this idea of needing to plan out every aspect of a trip is what is causing that magic to be lost, maybe something to think about.
So because I want Disney to get their act together on one specific thing I'm advocating they do everything like WDW?

K.

Again where did I say YOU were doing anything.

Since you decided to remove the rest of my post from your quote so all context is lost let me hopefully bring this to a close with just a single sentence since that is all you want.

Yes Disney should fix the website and the app to make the entertainment schedules more readily available days or weeks or however long in advance you think is appropriate so you can plan your trip around it.

See, it's easy!

Agreed. It should be easy to find entertainment schedules on both the website and the app.

Everyone should have the ability to plan a trip based on what they prioritize. If that’s a fireworks show, parade, or other live entertainment- it’s natural for someone to want to plan that.

Having the ability to plan is much different than expecting everyone to plan a day with reservations for rides, food, etc.

How did Disneyland survive for almost 60-65 years (before the app and website) without having the ability for someone to plan around entertainment?

guidebooks (remember Birnbaums!?) and brochures would give general ideas of when entertainment would be presented. And then you would call Disney and ask if you wanted a specific answer.

Which means that for the majority of Disneyland's existence that the information wasn't really readily available for planning purposes, especially for show times which are subject to daily change. This is why many have the opinion that the website and app has lead to much of the magic and spontaneity has been lost from Disney Parks.

Did the CMs manning the phone for Disneyland really run down all the daily showtimes for the entertainment offerings days or weeks in advance in 1963? How about 1978? Or 1986? Or 1992?
My first job was at a tourist attraction (a tourist railroad of course….) much of my day was spent answering the phone and telling people the departure times of the different trains.

For those who were planning a trip, I would write down the address and mail them a brochure that had all the dates and times listed.

I know that makes me sound older than the Dino’s represented in the primeval world but this was in the early 2000’s.

That didn't answer the question about Disneyland. Just because your job did that doesn't mean Disneyland did that.

I don't recall ever being able to get any entertainment showtimes when calling Disneyland in the 70s or 80s, only park hours.

I would think Disney would do much more for customer service than the tourist railroad I worked at! Haha.

So you would call Disney, ask them “what days do they present fireworks” and they would say, “sorry, can’t tell you!”

I would think even now, a cm could tell you showtimes if you asked.

That is an assumption that can't be made though.

Asking what days they have fireworks is a whole lot different than asking, "What are the showtimes for December 15th 1981 for Golden Horseshoe Revue" when calling on September 19th 1981. As the answer for fireworks is just "We run fireworks most nights but please ask the Cast Member when entering the Park". While the answer for showtimes would be, "Please check with the Cast Member when entering the Park that day, they can provide you with a list of showtimes".

I would think even now, a cm could tell you showtimes if you asked.
You can call and find out if you really want to know, my guess is they would direct you to the app.

so you think that before the internet there was no way for someone to find out if fireworks would be presented until they got to the park?

As daily fireworks were not a thing at Disneyland until the 2000s and limited to being seasonal before that, it was pretty much known they were limited to the mostly the summer. So yeah I'm pretty sure that most aren't calling asking if they will have fireworks in the fall or middle of the winter. So the answers will be based on that.

Also this whole conversation was about showtimes for what amounts to an outdoor stage show. So not sure why you're so insistent on the fireworks example.

I’m not sure why you’re so insistent on any of this personally.

I just think it’s not a crazy idea that people called and asked about operating hours, made dining reservations, and asked about entertainment schedules before the internet.

You’re wanting to compare the ability to use the app for convenience with people’s complaints that Disney is forcing us to use the app.

I'm not insistent on anything, its a discussion.

Dining reservations weren't really a thing before the internet at Disneyland, again something that came about in the early 2000s.

I'm also willing to bet that not very many called Disneyland Information for anything beyond operating hours before the internet.

Basically much of what we're now talking about didn't come about until the early 2000s after the internet.

You’re wanting to compare the ability to use the app for convenience with people’s complaints that Disney is forcing us to use the app.
What I'm trying to say that that prior to the app/website it was much more spontaneous and magical because you just dropped in and experienced what was available. There wasn't a lot of planning done before hand, you just showed up and whatever was available you did. If something was closed or cancelled for example you didn't know ahead of time, you showed up and yeah were disappointed but you moved on and went on to the next thing.

Things were really much simpler back then kids.

I sure as hell did. I was calling that 714 customer service number as a ten year old in the early 90s making sure the POTC’s and Mansions of the world weren’t closed. Nothing was ruining my once a year or so trip.
Did you call for showtimes for Golden Horseshoe Revue or any other show?
