DHS Disney Animation-Inspired Experience Coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios

Both Disney and Universal pivoted away from that long ago.
I am pretty convinced Universal initiated the shift and Disney followed. Universal has always been lacking in the "overall park concept" department. It is very sad to see Disney sink to their level because that is precisely why Disney used to be considered the better of the two. Now they are nearly indistinguishable.

Would those unhappy with the GMR closing have been happy if they had of just converted it to a ride through Disney owned IP?
I would have been fine with an update. I’m sure any update would have replaced the hosts and interactions with the sets but an update would have freshened it up for sure.

In general, I think attractions at all Disney parks should be updated rather than replaced. A few random exceptions of course.

IMHO, the best parts of GMR were the load, gangster scene, and Alien scenes.

They could’ve replaced everything else and I would’ve been fine. Oz felt very tired by the end, but they could’ve left another scene or two like casa Blanca

Did you ever get the cowboy scene? It was even better with the real fire!

Honestly the ride had so many classics that will never not be classics - it was pretty timeless.

Musicals (trade out footlight for something else), gangster, westerns, sci-fi (maybe update alien to Star Wars for IP?), Indiana jones, swap out Tarzan with a newer IP?, Casablanca, update Mickey with a full scene with AA, and then yeah…. Swap out Oz if needed for the rights.

Still would be such a great ride…. With a few updates.

Yeah, loved that one too, just felt the gangster scene had better execution

I was lucky to get both back to back on my last 2 rides. The cowboy scene won for me cause I love real fire effects - it’s why Spider-Man and Indy are still better than rise for me.

But I did like the gangster scene too - and that red light gag - classic!
I did the same thing. We requested the Cowboy scene for our last ride since it had been twenty years since we'd seen it. We always used to get it with the Handicapped car for our grandma's wheelchair.

The entrance to this land will be based this specific entrance to the Burbank property. Accordingly, I think we should expect "The Walt Disney Studios" to be written along each side, just as on the real one here:

(And indeed, if you look closely at the aerial concept art, it appears to suggest this.)

Pretty much like Pixar Place with the front gate area..Shame there wasn't a better way to get Pixar related things all in one big area with TSL and M:I spread out in the park sandwiched a ho-hum Star Wars Land.

I still think that would have solved multiple problems at once. Instead they went for the hideous Toy Story Land and now Monsters is kicking out Muppets. It would have been so much easier and saved a lot of money to lean into the Pixar Studios concept and of course the ruination of Frontierland would not be happening.

Bingo! And Pixar and their associated IP would make for a great "Park within a par" section that would have given some organization as a whole...but that ship has sailed and DHS is kind of doomed to forever feel like Random IP land....like they are now doing to the MK....
