DHS Disney Animation-Inspired Experience Coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios

Yes… that was intentional. Just like the trees that blocked the views of the castle and provided shade to those in the hub.
Oh yeah, definitely, especially when the park was split between backstage and the park. I do think in recent years you had to intentionally aim to visit those attractions back there as you wouldn't really know what was in that area with the arch blocking the view :)

In my opinion, in today’s Disney, there is less care about site lines and more interest in selling lighting lane.
I disagree. Guardians show building is an exception, not the rule.

I think it’s a reason why the Monsters coaster show building didn’t end up in AC and it got pushed so far back to the parking lot to avoid Galaxy’s Edge sight issues.

I’m surprised that the walkway towards Toy Story lane wasn’t themed in any way during all of the expansion. That walk between 2 soundstages really sticks out now.
The frustrating thing is basically my theory is "If you are going to ditch the studio theme. ditch it. Don't leave elements there to create some bizarre hybrid AND especially suddenly lean back into it to revive the animation area. after you tore out GMR and the Majority of the studio connections. It's just as frustrating as EPCOT still acting like it is the edu-tainment park when that aspect of it has been declining for years and all pretense was killed when Reflections of Earth ended.

Well there is also the Tron building which can be seen from areas of the Magic Kingdom...So, not so much an exception... I think they care a lot less than they used to...With the removal of the arch they are breaking that continuity from the "Hollywood That Never Was" area directly into a studio courtyard....Which is not 1940s Hollywood..... Just another area of the park... The archway was the portal into the Studios..... after the setup of the world of Hollywood in the golden era of films.... It was intentional....

Agree to disagree. We can only guess. My guess is Iger hated the Muppets ;) JK

I am VERY HAPPY we are GETTING BACK the animation attraction in the animation courtyard. I sincerely think bringing back the animation attraction was NOT in the plan when they announced the destroy and replacement of Muppets with Monsters. I think the return of a animation attraction is a recent idea they can do fast and cheap, but I am still happy about it.

I sincerely think selling LLs takes priority over sightlines.

Does Imagineering have GREAT ideas about sidelines? YES! But its not in the budget

I am sure Imagineering had great ideas for the Guardians cube, but it was not in the budget.

Just my opinion.

I’m really excited about this change and look forward to seeing the progress. They’re working quickly and that’s always fun to watch. Obviously this change is only temporary for a certain amount of years but the theme fits well. Having an animation area ties back into the Hollywood theme and gives Disney the ability to advertise new properties and projects. It’s a win-win for them really.

I think ditching rather than reinforcing the working studio theme is part of the goal here, though. The archway was a vestige of when Animation Courtyard was a separate, business-functional area of the park tied to the original theme; its elimination signals its incorporation into the larger story of the present version of Hollywood & Sunset, which will likely remain the park's spine even as other IP lands are added.

The one attached to the theatre? I think it’s reopened 🤔
It was further back by the restrooms it had mostly Disney Jr merch at the time I went..

I don’t think it was. IIRC, they used the space for photo sessions at Jollywood last year. I’ll be curious where JN merch goes. Last year it was in Stage One.
They might do something similar to MNSSHP (and I think MVMCP) at MK in the Emporium. Empty off a section at a store and put the JN party merch there.

Mickey's of Hollywood at one of ends in the store is the most likely spot imo. Currently it has the line of sorcerer mickey merch that's been very popular this year.

When you compare the before and after, you can see that the arch really did block some sightlines of Animation Courtyard and hid them from view. You can actually see the Little Mermaid facade now and Disney Jr facade too

That courtyard is very weirdly organised, which is particularly notable looking at bioreconstruct's aerial shots.

Specifically, the animation building is off-centre and partially obscured by the Little Mermaid theatre in a way I don't think you would plan the courtyard if you were designing it from scratch as it looks like the animation building is supposed to be the new focal point. It looks like it would be improved if you could get rid of the awning from the Little Mermaid theatre, but I guess that serves a functional purpose. Even moving that big sign from the corner would help, though.

They seem to be trying to address this by putting a park with trees in the middle and creating two distinct pathways, one that does lead directly to the animation building as its focal point. Will be interesting to see how well that works.

Seeing all this WDS theme going back into AC, it makes me wish we could get a rebirth of the Earful Tower behind the Animation Building. As if you are viewing the tower forma distance Much like you view the real tower on the backlot in Burbank. It could rise behind the building in this area highlighted here, and be framed nicely by the new pathways.

Or even include a smaller one on top of the building!
