Wearing 3D glasses and fully immersing yourself in physical sets can’t co-exist. If you’re like me and take off the 3D glasses during the physical scenes, there are moments when your mind is focused on your glasses rather than the show. For some, 3D also gives them motion sickness.

There is no “dumbing down” of the attraction’s story here. There is simply the substitution of one technology for another. We’re getting crisper, brighter projections, new props, and enhanced lighting effects. Dropping the 3D glasses creates a better experience for guests and I think you will agree after you experience the attraction without them.

An attraction that is almost entirely screen based is loosing 3D in order to add a couple of physical props.

Really?

That's like saying Star Tours should loose 3D because the glasses interfere with how riders can view the AA C3PO.

Huh? Why would you take off your glasses? You're introducing a problem then blaming the ride for it.

The idea of 3D is to bridge the gap between the physical sets and the otherwise impossible set-extensions that 3D allows. Without it, the illusion is gone. It'll be obvious you're just parking in front of a giant screen.

I've been on Peter Pan's Neverland Adventure multiple times at DisneySea and it shows its possible to perfectly blend the 3D with physical sets. Unfortunately for that to work on Rat I feel they would need to gut the entire ride and redo it.

I’ve never been under the illusion that I’m not parking in front of a giant screen. 🤷‍♂️

Unlike Star Tours, the 3D effects in the attraction are actually quite flat with the exception of Gusteau. I’d argue that the 3D effects actually add very little depth to the attraction and the glasses ruin the physical scenes. In my opinion, replacing the projectors with brighter, higher resolution models and turning off the 3D is a win-win.

I’m one of those people so I’m happy to see this change, my only fear is seeing things that weren’t meant to be seen, I remember riding the OG potter ride in 3D and then again in 2D and noticing a lot of things on the side I hadn’t noticed during my 3D rides, glasses focus our vision forward, without them I think our peripheral vision makes things more apparent. Hopefully they address this if necessary.
Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey was not designed as a 3D attraction and has never been 3D at Islands of Adventure. The 2D version is how it was designed and originally meant to be seen.

Most of the attraction relies on 3D as an important storytelling element so I'm not sure where you are coming from with your opinion. The entire chase scene through the walls for example would appear odd and underwhelming without the 3D element.

Spoiler alert, in a couple of years you're going to be in the same position of blurred and dim projections because of lack of maintenance, not because it's 3D or 2D.

They're dumbing this thing down because it's cheaper and easier than maintaining the ride as originally designed.

I’m on the west coast so my first several rides were all at USH, not sure if it was designed for 3D there or not but it was a once per day ride for me because I’d come off ill.

Some have already experienced the attraction in Paris in 2D. From the opinions I’ve read, most people seem to prefer the attraction in 2D 🤷‍♂️

If it costs Disney less money and results in a better guest experience, that’s what we call a win-win. Now, after spending money on replacing the expensive projectors, enhancing the lighting effects, and adding new props, it will likely take a quite a while to profit from a tiny decrease in payroll expenditures and replacement cost of damaged/lost cheap 3D glasses.

Some people are good with having low standards. It's how we've gotten a lot of the slop out of Disney in these past couple of years.

Overhauling a 3D projection system is much more expensive than dumbing it down to 2D and adding a couple of inanimate props. And yes there is a cost of purchasing, processing, and sanitizing the glasses, and in a company of penny pinchers, that expense does not go unnoticed.

If that ever happens, I will be upset too. The 3D experience on Flight of Passage ≠ 3D experience on Ratatouille. The former is a positive guest experience, while the latter has been a lackluster guest experience from day one.

You know, I can't really disagree with any of that lol (even if I still want the 3D to stay, of course!)

Demolition implies movement. I'd say this is more accurate to Imagination:

I fear the day when it's celebrated that Disney's removing 3D from Flight of Passage.
I’m probably in the minority but I’d love that change also, I love the ride but it’s a once a day for me because it always makes me queasy.

With 4 theaters this is one of those rides where they could easily offer both a 2D and 3D option, similar to how Mission Space has a non spinning side to prevent motion sickness, the fact they don’t makes me think I must be part of a very small minority that it makes feel sick.
