Miscellaneous Tokyo Thoughts

Question, after new TL, why is OLC doing new Adventureland and not new Fantasyland. As while I like the new AL proposal the middle of fantasy with dumbo and peterpan and all seemed very outdated when I was there which is a shame given its a park next to Disneysea

They effectively just did New Fantasyland next door.

And based on my (admittedly few and far between) visits, nothing in Adventureland other than Jungle Cruise seems particularly popular.

I know they did new FL but the actual main area (ie directly behind the castle) seems very outdated. Shame they never realized the announced Alice and Wonderland area/ old FL announcement. Really hope they update it. Will say JC only had a 5 min wait when I visited so idc if they take it out and make a huge new land

All of Tokyo’s lands are outdated. They are redoing them one by one but fantasyland is most popular of the legacy lands so they likely see the least reason to update it

TEA 2024 Attendance Report out today.

TDL attendance up 2.6% to 15.1 million, TDS up 2.9% to 12.4 million.

USJ beats out both, remaining 3rd-most visited park in the world and most-vistied in Asia, despite remaining flat from last year.

Something looks off with the TDR numbers. The 2024 numbers are pretty much the same as the ones they published in the 2023 report (15.1 million for TDL, 12.4 million for TDS).

So either the 2023 numbers were adjusted downwards or the parks actually stayed flat like USJ from last year.

2023 numbers were revised it seems. The numbers are not the same between the 2024 and 2023 reports.

Especially given how busy TDS seems to be, those waits are insane for such a HUGE park. Is the ride inventory just too low still? Ride hourly capacity low, and an oversold theme park?

TDS hasn't changed in 2 years in spite of opening Fantasy Springs? That seems odd.

Fantasy Springs was only open for half of 2024 and had very strict capacity restrictions until the beginning of 2025. I know that many were turned off from visiting after hearing how getting into the new land was not guaranteed. We likely won't see the full benefit of it on attendance until the 2025 numbers. 2023 itself was also boosted by the 40th Anniversary event, so it's possible Fantasy Springs did stop the resort from seeing a dip in attendance for 2024.

Whether or not TDR can return to pre-pandemic numbers is another story. They probably need to reinstate APs for that, but OLC seem content not chasing the attendance highs for now. Despite lower attendance than before, they are seeing record-high revenue and guest spending.
