DHS Disney Confirms Muppets Take Over Rock 'n' Roller Coaster at Hollywood Studios

Well, when you think about it, what will the scope of the project really be? The ride structure itself isn't changing. Any new ride elements - presumably new flats inside the main show building, lighting, props, and the animatronics themselves - are practically plug and play (and are presumably being fabricated now.)

I'm assuming the rest of the work will just be paint, signage, and tackling some maintenance on the ride system itself. Say the attraction closes not long after Dinosaur, if not the same day or even before. It's not a huge list to check off by Memorial Day.

But knowing Disney, it'll probably be the standard mid-July opening
These are all fair points, but if it closed February 1 and opened let’s say Mid July that is the standard 6 month window for a retheme like this. I think Memorial Day is way too early and also doesn’t put us in Summer.

Sorry if this has been answered already, but do we know if the entrance area is getting an update? The Aerosmith lettering would have to be removed but do we know if the inverted car is going to get repainted?

Once you start touching things at all there will be approvals and testing, etc .... Just can't go quite as quick as people want/think. Add in some new animatronics, etc ... 6 months is more than reasonable I think.

We haven't heard anything about the inverted car or archway, yet. As you said, the only thing we can be sure of is a change to the lettering.

Hopefully, they know enough NOT make the front of the inverted car or anything on the archway into bright colors, as that would break the visual cohesion of the end of Sunset Boulevard and the approach to Tower of Terror - but all we have to go on for this, so far, is the belief that people involved with the project understand that issue of aesthetic integrity.

It seems like the preshow is going to get the most work done on it (new AA). I wonder if they would continue to run the ride but "skip" the preshow. Basically just blackout the window in that room and let people walk though.

They did say the set pieces in the actual ride would be updated to reflect Muppets styling so work is there too ... So that is at least part of the time - even if that is a few months less just not sure it would be worth it vs reopening it all at once

Guess maybe they could keep the current version running for a little longer while they work on the preshow just not sure worth i vs working on everything all at once.

I mean, we saw it will Muppets courtyard they could have left Muppet*vision open longer but chose to just work on everything all at once - think just makes things easier for them once work gets started at all

Lots of armchair Imagineering about Statler and Waldorf being above the launch but j don't think any insider hints out there yet

Maybe could be something at the end of the ride too, kinda like Weezy for Slinky Dog
I think the only 2 places it makes sense are the launch and the brake run... otherwise you are moving too fast to really notice an AA

If the ride cars are going to be repainted in a psychedelic style, it would be terrible to have the inverted vehicle over the archway not match it - cohesion be damned.

I think they could paint the inverted car without changing the grill/front that you see from Sunset Boulevard. That would be the best of both worlds - the inverted car is cohesive with the ride vehicle, and what's visible from Sunset Boulevard / the Tower of Terror approach is cohesive with Sunset Boulevard / the Tower of Terror approach.
