DHS Disney Confirms Muppets Take Over Rock 'n' Roller Coaster at Hollywood Studios

I don't know if it's been mentioned earlier in this thread but I just think this is a bad match with ride and IP. Don't get me wrong, I love the Muppets and would love to have an attraction that is all theirs but this seems like a poor pairing.

I think this ride would pair so much better with an Alien theming.

And then some major scandal happens and this whole cycle repeats. Much smarter to use the muppets especially if they “team up” with other artists that can be easily switched in and out
Did you ever tell us what this major scandal would be?

Incidentally, her film debuts this weekend and is expected to make 2x the opening of the last Muppet film.

Well first off I didn’t say she already had a major scandal, just a few controversies so I don’t know why you felt the need to bring it up again. But yeah I sure hope that one of the largest artists of our times movie can put more numbers than a relatively unsuccessful sequel to an at the time fairly unused property…. Duh.

The thing with the muppets is that they never really can get a controversy. They’re Disney owned as well which means they don’t have to pay the absolutely massive price deals that TS would expect

So, if I understand correctly, Rockin Roller Coaster's plot is going to be carried over to the new ride? No one had a great idea to use these iconic and beloved characters. Someone just saw a way to sell more crap at a relatively low financial outlay, and the current branding used to sell said crap was growing a bit tired. The fact that Disney outright owns these characters and this is the best they can do with them speaks volumes about what a soulless, creatively bankrupt enterprise Disney has become. Additionally, the largest entertainment company in the world can afford to transplant Muppett Vision into the same courtyard and build a little Muppet Studios. Then, maybe, we'd have something.

Sort of - they decided they wanted to close MuppetVision because [REASONS], then somebody pointed out that a lot of people would be mad if they closed MuppetVision, so they decided to actually do that Electric Mayhem overlay of Rock 'n' Roller Coaster lots of folks had suggested online to "satisfy" us.

I will not be appeased. At least not by corporate money grabs.

That’s exactly what I think happened too and I’m not mad about it, especially if Sunset Showcase becomes another Muppet attraction.

Disney has announced Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets opens in Summer 2026:

At Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets, you bet we’ll have rock as we roll across Hollywood on a wild ride with the Electric Mayhem – complete with backstage chaos, high-speed thrills, that signature Muppet humor… and an all-new Muppet Audio-Animatronics figure.

Side by side with a dedicated team of penguin audio engineers, Scooter, in his capacity as band manager, will be trying hard to convince the Electric Mayhem to stop laying down tracks so they won’t be late to their own concert. This will be the first time Scooter has ever been imagined as an Audio-Animatronics figure, and I hear he might not be the only Muppet Audio-Animatronics figure joining the attraction… but we’ll have to wait to learn more about that.

Now, I can imagine you’re ready to go pedal to the metal and experience the high-speed hijinks of The Muppets in this latest story. Well, the wait will be over before you know it: Get ready to rock out when

Summer is described as June 21 - September 22, seeing these dates Rock N Roll needs to close fairly early on to make this work and even so that is a fast turnaround. Excited for this one though, are the other AA’s Statler and Waldorf possibly Dr Honeydew and Beaker?

This one is going to come down to the tracklist.

Well, when you think about it, what will the scope of the project really be? The ride structure itself isn't changing. Any new ride elements - presumably new flats inside the main show building, lighting, props, and the animatronics themselves - are practically plug and play (and are presumably being fabricated now.)

I'm assuming the rest of the work will just be paint, signage, and tackling some maintenance on the ride system itself. Say the attraction closes not long after Dinosaur, if not the same day or even before. It's not a huge list to check off by Memorial Day.

But knowing Disney, it'll probably be the standard mid-July opening.
