Watch out, DeSantis might come after this for disney being too woke about children with horrible illness who are mooching off other people for vacations

I did my tag registration mid August and am still awaiting my personalized plate (just have a random 50th one right now). I wonder if with the timing if I'll get the 50th or this (I'm fine either way)

Personally I think I liked the 50th plate better (also for a make-a-wish), but this is still nice, I'm glad this is continuing.

Disney says the Walt Disney World specialty license plate supporting Make-A-Wish has raised $5 million and helped grant wishes for more than 600 kids with critical illnesses.

“We are so grateful for the Disney Specialty License Plate and how it helps grant wishes like Maddie’s — wishes that inspire hope, strength, and joy for the entire family during some of their darkest times,” said Anne Cuba, President and CEO of Make-A-Wish Central and Northern Florida. “A Disney wish has the power to transform a child’s life. We always say that wishes are more than just a moment, they mark a turning point in a child’s journey and provide memories for years to come.”

Have you not met the people on here?!?
I got this..

Actually, these types of 'fundraisers' really irritate me.. Between this and the 'round up your total' schemes.. I'm not sure how people don't understand whats going on here.. These methods are simply done to get 'you' to pay into the donation.. the donation is then made, and then the company (in this case disney) gets a tax write off.

It's exactly why walmart and the like ask you round up for a donation to a charity.. They accept the funds, then cut the big check, and then write it off as a donation on their taxes to offset liabilities.

Here's a clue, maybe get your hand out of my pocket and donate a portion of your revenue towards a charity.. then you'll actually be 'earning' that tax break.

Okay, I am really not trying to wade into politics here. Seriously, I mean it.

But my gut reaction to this is that while I love Walt Disney World and I also think Make-A-Wish is awesome, I don't think the state government should be selling license plates that are essentially an advertisement for a private company's theme parks. That just leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

That said, if I lived in Florida, I admit that I'd probably be tempted to buy one, because I really like the design. However, I still don't think it's something the state should be doing.

Florida has specialty license plates on any number of topics. Take it up with them.

I don't know why people are complaining. It's a Florida license plate for Florida drivers. You opt in if you want it. Either you get a standard plate with a Florida orange on it or you pay additional for whatever specialty license plate you want. Walt Disney World is just one of many. I still have the 50th anniversary version on my car. So my fees go to the state and a portion to the sponsor of the plate. Works for me.

No one is forcing you to get one. It's one of many optional specialty plates that a Florida driver can get from collegiate to military to sports to environmental to special interest, including WDW.
  1. You have to have a vehicle registered in Florida.
  2. You need a license plate for said vehicle. If you don't want the WDW plate, don't get it. Just get a standard Florida Orange plate.
It's not a conspiratorial "scheme."

Disney is a business.. Not a charity .. Despite the front they want to put out there..

They (like all major corporations) 'give-back', because it benefits their bottom line when the tax man comes knocking... It's the same reason your favorite sports and Hollywood celebrities have favorite charities and foundations. Are they without good intent on the charity front? Not always, but any CPA will tell you exactly what I'm posting here. It's a way to wash out higher earnings and deduct those things for your own benefit as well.

For the record, I have the plate on my vehicle. I don't care if they back a plate and use the revenue for whatever they want. But to continue to spin these types of programs as anything but self-serving is disingenuous.

Don't even get me started on Goodwill and Salvation Army....

My point is it's one of hundreds of specialty plates in the State of Florida that doesn't take much to launch. Disney decided to do one and designate Make a Wish as its charity. They have partnered with Make a Wish long before the plate which, as you know, was launched in 2021 for the 50th anniversary. Is it really so bad that they help support trips to WDW mostly for dying children?

Get off your high horse and let them do a little charity. You strike me as one who would be complaining why aren't they involved in any charities at all.
