HKDL gets new castle, frozen land and marvel land.

That was seriously confusing me. For some reason I have no frame of reference for square feet or square meters so I was like “is that a normal theatre size and a mansion or a normal house and a theatre for ant’s”
I thought I was seeing things for a second. Very confused.

By the way, if anyone wants to know where the screenshots are from, HK releases a list of approved buildings:
If only it was easy to get the floor plan for these buildings. We already know layout for the Lion King ride in Paris and Spiderman coaster in Shanghai, but don’t know anything for Pixar and Marvel tower in HK.

The given 2085 is in units square metres. I attached the image of a rough overall area for the space available. Seems like they are only using half of that + the 184.5 square metre "horizontal extension" .

I can't seem to get my head around the changes made to the ride vehicle, does this mean the actual ride plot is changing?

First off, the first concept art from D23 2024 looks like its heavily inspired by the ride vehicle from WEB SLINGERS and it seems like they didn't go with the generic TOT ride vehicle seating plan, with only 19 seats instead of 22 seats. Also, the concept art featured lap bars instead of seatbelts which I found quite confusing since TOTs around the world have been using seatbelts instead of traditional lap bars.

In the second concept art shared on the 20th anniversary day of HKDL, the ride vehicle updated and it now looks more like a TOT ride vehicle, with the 22 seating plan. It just seemed to me that they were sort of changing the plot... with more Avengers..?

I’m assuming it’s due to the conflict with Shanghai or maybe just a change in design perspective. Widen the amount of characters and they could even do a mission breakout situation where you get a different “mission” each time (say one goes to Asgard and one goes to wakanda etc)

I don’t know if the different ride vehicles were intended or not but it would be strange for them to not use the TOT ride design considering there is already 3 identical versions already

I wonder how effective a wider marketing push would be to target the GBA itself

On paper the GBA has more people than the greater Shanghai or greater Tokyo regions but Hong Kong Disney is stuck with the vast majority of that population being on the other side of the border.

I don’t know the specifics of how that border actually works but I wonder if it is possible for Disney to “grease” that passage for potential guests; a proverbial “buy a ticket for the park or a vacation package and we can fast track a border crossing” as a means of encouraging tourism

Chimelong ocean itself takes advantage of the GBA which is why it’s the busiest non Disney or universal park in the world. I wonder if Disney can make that easier

I also don’t know how good GBA public transport is. I know at least you can do shenzhen to Disney entirely on train via lok mau chai but even that alone is a 2 hour train trip each way. I’d imagine if Guangzhou and Shenzhen’s train networks interlink that would be a long train trip from Guangzhou not to mention somewhere like jiangmen
Yes. The Pearl River Delta is huge, Guanzhou to HKDL is 200 kilometer. Even from Shenzhen it's quite a hike. And with a cumbersome international border in all but name in between. I was based in Shenzhen my last trip, and did two days of HKDL. It's quite the hassle. You need to exit your bus/taxi/car, walk, stand in line, and emerge on the other side and find another mode of transport. Cars are only allowed in limited numbers to cross the border, and only if you live in HK. (Not to mention, China drives on the right, HK on the left).

HKDL despite having on paper the largest local market of any worldwide Disney resort, by far, is isolated. And is simultaneously, also by far, the smallest and least developed resort. Not an enviable situation to be in.

Maybe HKDL could market itself more as a stopover destination? Its proximity to Hong Kong International Airport means you could easily market it as a place to add onto a layover rather than traveling into the city. It may be easier to attract overseas travelers who often can visit visa free for short trips

That was actually the “justification” they used to underbuild a castle park while the other two post euro Disney disaster parks were second gates

The idea was you hopped off the plane for a few hours as a stopover, visited the small Hong Kong Disney and did what you wanted in a few hours. Then went “wow this was fun but I wish there was more to do” which would cause you to book a trip to a better Disney park

Unsurprisingly it didn’t work

Michael Moriarty, managing director for HKDL, is taking Kevin Lansberry's place as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Disney Experiences.

Hard to have a better internal company recognition of how much better the park is doing than that level of promotion

Some also suspect that Tim Sypko will takeover as Managing Director for 2026. SCMP released two articles yesterday, one on Michael's promotion to CFO of Disney Experiences and one on the Halloween event featuring Tim Sypko as a spokesperson.

With the Stark Expo expansion, they will have to remove the Tomorrowland stage. And I believe this will be at around 2026 before the opening of the new Pixar area + stage show. HKDL used to use that Tomorrowland stage for their Avengers/Marvel character shows but from the Season of Super Heroes event this April, they've chosen to add a mini-stage right beside it, which works. I believe this is to test the waters whether this works. With this in mind, it all ties in together with the removal of the Tomorrowland Stage and the opening of the Pixar-stage show attraction.

I wish they would release some updates land usage plans for the two pads they are currently filling

Both pads are very much “way too big for what they are currently advertising adding to them”

I mean its quite ambiguous for the Pixar-expansion area other than the stage-show itself but for Stark Expo, they did mention for more "entertainment areas", stores and a restaurant.
