Touché. I meant, this is one of the reasons they want to. Guests have done a poor job communicating to Disney the rivers intrinsic value.

I was also somewhat referencing alternative suggestions like they could have halved the river or built a new river attraction. No, they want rid of it. Guests don’t like it or don’t realize why they should like it.

Ah, gotcha. Yes, some people seem to think that Disney is saying, "Aww, gee, we're really sorry, folks, but our guests really love Cars, and this is the only way to do it. We can't make it work beyond Big Thunder, and sadly TSI is just too expensive to keep up. We're really bummed, but..."

No, I agree with you. They can't wait to destroy this. (Eww, icky 1800s!)

ETA: On the other hand, it's hard to argue with those poor TP numbers. ☹️

They definitely care, a lot. But in aggregate, they don’t love any of us individually. There is no singular fan. If we needed to reach uniform consensus I think the best we could do is plant a bush 7 miles off property.

I brought it up because I was surprised how poorly those two attractions did.

Clearly this board is not representative of the average Disney fan. I wasn’t at all surprised by how poorly those attractions did or the fact that Disney wanted them gone.

The guests did a fine job of communicating how important the river was to them. They’re just different guests from most of the people who post here.

Hmm…. I’m sure the data is accurate cause it’s Len and team but peoplemover at 5 and dapper dans at 6 doesn’t make any sense.

The Main Street vehicles (which have extremely limited operating hours and capacity) are rated significantly higher than the riverboat on that list. I’m not sure how that’s possible?

I’d surmise because you have to have ridden it, something like the Main Street vehicles are self-selected and people feel special and catered to. The riverboat is experienced en masse.

I don’t know why it’s so different that the train and people mover? But maybe because it’s slow to load or can get hot.

The island and river were never designed to be a people eater though. Quite the opposite. Plus It was designed to be transportive. Taking people to another time and place. That’s what the castle parks are. Yesterday, Tomorrow and Fantasy. National Park meets talking Cars (based on a film set in the modern world) works better in a non castle park. That’s without getting into the fact that Liberty Square, Frontierland and their remaining attractions were designed to be facing the river/ island. To see Disney disregard all of this, the history and aesthetic beauty of the river, island and steamboat to shoehorn in this Cars ride is just sad to witness.

I get that the park will have more capacity but at what cost? And that extra capacity won’t come until Villains Land opens up. I don’t think the Cars ride(s) on its own will have more capacity than the island/ steamboat in any meaningful way, if at all. The obvious move was Villains, no Cars and keep the lower loop. Cars should have gone to DHS.

I just filled out a Touring Plans survey from my trip and you are not required to give everything a rating and I could see that people that specifically experienced the Dapper Dans probably remember enjoying it and give it a good rating, whereas people that just walked by probably didn't bother to give it a rating at all - but if they had to rank everything in the park they probably rank it relatively low (just using Dapper Dans as an example).

So there is probably some "experience bias" in the rankings

Yeah… as someone who thinks the island should stay I would definitely rank the island itself very low on a list of everything at MK - but that doesn’t mean it shouldn’t exist.

I’d rank the riverboat much higher cause anything steam is worth a very high rating! :)

That’s where I think some of these ratings are tricky - I’m going to rate the tea cups very low - but I absolutely think they should exist and be a part of a castle park!

Exactly. Id love to see where it would rank if the questions were "What area of the park did you find the most beautiful?" or "What part of the park did you find the most relaxing or peaceful?" But I guess those things don't matter as much anymore.

Yes I’m quoting myself here haha.

But let’s be honest, this isn’t about capacity as much as it’s about how much more money they’ll make on that real estate now. It’s certainly not about thematic integrity. Villains and Cars ride LLs, tons of merch and themed food up the wazoo. They currently make 0$ on that real estate now… at least on a spreadsheet. Obviously its intrinsic value and how it contributes to the overall picture and guest satisfaction is immeasurable. But some people aren’t aware or are not able to put it into words. And Disney will word their surveys in a way to get exactly the answers they want.
