So, going back to this image, which villain's hand is that on the bottom row? I thought it was Yzma but I'm not sure

I haven't seen anyone bring this up yet, but, does anyone get major HR Giger vibes from WDI's "influences?"Even though WDI probably wouldn't want to admit it, Giger is the creator of the ultimate villain architecture, and he himself was heavily influenced by the same periods and movements that WDI is discussing. Giger himself said that his work was influenced greatly by the art neuveau movement “The style that influenced me the most was Art Nouveau, for the elegance of its shapes and drawings. My biomechanoids are influenced by this style, which is architectural and combines machines with a streamlined concept of progress.” Giger is also primarily surrealist, which grew out of the Barcelona Modernisme movement at the beginning of the twentieth century. I don't see how the artists at WDI could not be aware of his work in the context of architectural influences on a Villain-Land. They probably can't come out and say that, but my hopes are high for some gnarly evocative motifs and maybe a hidden xenomorph :).

This may have been posted somewhere already, but extracting all of the descriptive statements from the recent Imagineering post on their research trip. I assume this sheds some light on what kind of land they're looking to build:

- Flower vine 'cursed' into metal
- Smoky magic made squid
- Elegant, curved lines
- Slow reclamation of nature
- Feels magically grown from the ground
- Nature morphing into structure
- Bold colors like the characters
- Art as total environment
- Dragon!
- Space felt like it was breathing
- Lush details, looks conjured not constructed

I know it won’t be anywhere near as dark as Darkmoor, I do hope they give this land a little bit of an edge. Remember, kids like to be scared a little bit.
From video only, Darkmoor doesn’t seem dark or scary. Atmospheric, yes, but not dark. Villains could easily match Dark Universe’s tone.

I was just there last week for the first time and agree with using the word "atmospheric" vs dark. During the day it largely seems like a rustic village, at night a bit more creepy.

I would say Das Stakehouse comes off a bit more dark with the familiars on the walls, etc but the outside area isn't super dark

I do think it looks a bit more "rough and tumble" than I think Disney will be going for which seems to be a bit more regal / ornate

Another random thought - I’m guessing Villains will be absolutely stunning at night. I know that feelings on the evening lighting effects are mixed - some, like me, love them, while others are more “Oo, yay, uplighting, what artistry”, lol. But either way, this will be a land built from the ground up with after dark hours, presumably, very much in mind. At a minimum I think the uplighting will be gorgeous, and at a wish list level, I’m even thinking never before seen effects to make it come to life. Shadows scurrying past on walls, a tower suddenly covered in thorns, trails shimmering to life beneath your feet… There’s so much they could do.

Again, my apologies if this was addressed before...curious if Andreas Deja will really be all-that heavily involved with Villains, or will it be more like someone attaching their name (but nothing else) to a project as "Executive Producer" just to add prestige to the project (or somewhere in-between)?

I don't think anyway to fully know but it does seem like the folks they are bringing back in to consult mentor now, since Bruce Vaughn came back/had impact (Andreas Deja, Ron Clements, etc) will truly be involved vs like Tony Baxter with TBA which felt like just trying to appease fans ... but we shall see

Didnt they tell us TB was going to be directly involved with the destruction of Splash and that turned out to be a blatant lie?

How do you mentor in something you’ve never done?

Don’t take it personal. He’s just super condescending with nearly every narrative.
Fighting between:
Grrrr Disney is just an artless corporation! Only the top have any say!

and
What does this ARTIST know about their characters?? Why ask HIM to do anything?
He was just saying that he is not and was never an Imagineer and therefore cannot mentor in that capacity, not that he has no wisdom to offer.
