“this year’s Destination D23 event will mark the biggest of its kind yet!”
“from August 29 – 31, 2025! D23 Gold Members will be among the first to hear exciting announcements and see sneak peeks from the many worlds of Disney”

Yeah shame on people

It’s true largely because Studios massively scaled up its presence.

And exactly where does it say anything about 'Villains Land'?

The 'worlds of Disney' means literally all of their IP, divisions, properties, etc. And they did make announcements about those. If you read 'worlds of Disney' as 'Walt Disney World', thats 110% on you.

Maybe it’s partly my fault for setting up high expectations but this take is a flat out lie. They specifically said to watch out for announcements during four specific panels and villains was listed as one of them.

I’ll give them this though, that Carousel of Progress announcement is pretty sweet and I’m very happy they are doing that.
They did make announcements, and did announce things during the Villains panel.

Maybe just a difference of opinion, but I appreciate the harsh criticism from behind the computer screen! You didn’t spend money to come to D23. Maybe you would feel differently.
I'd tell it to you face too, if you want.

I've been to a lot of cons. Going to one hoping for a specific announcement(s) is begging for a bad time. What if they made some announcement that the crappy C-tier villain you love (and I know theres one) is 100% definitely not going to be in the land? Would you be okay with that because they announced something? No, you'd be upset there too.

"...from the many worlds of Disney"

There is more to Disney than Theme Parks.

For sure. The studios portion seemed good and on par if not more. I just don’t think it’s fair telling people it’s their fault for having high expectations for park updates based on this messaging, while also touting in the background the turbocharged expansions and biggest investments in park history.

I like to remind everyone how historically Destination is a nothing burger, like D23 Brazil was. Typically there will be fluffy project details sprinkled in that we already know about.

As for this one, one of SSE, COP, Buzz, Stitch, MILF or Space seem like viable things to shake out. I think the one-more-thing is actually just letting the attendees preview Test Track 3.0.

Strategically quoting myself from page two of this thread just so it doesn’t come off like “reverse coping”.

Plus the addition of the meaty studios panel unexpectedly and generally some fun high quality panels and entertainment has left me not only enjoying what I’ve always downplayed as a nothing side event… but I’ll come back if it works out.

The clustering of the announcements over the last 2 months could have been done in a dedicated panel. Though the result would be the same. I do think they somewhat over signposted expectations for the Villains project. Which I did not personally anticipate until they told us to.

The announcements already made (last year at D23 and already this year), along with no specific parks panel, should have clued you in that they weren't going to do anything major for the parks. They pretty much emptied the chamber already.

Now, should some of the little announcements over the last little while have been held for this event? Probably.

It shook out asymmetrically for sure in how they upscaled. As someone who probably enjoys studios over parks over legends for the big three offerings at expo, I admit this is why my reaction is highly positive.

I’m pretty sure destination has never included any studios presence of note. But my memory is iffy on these events.

Tbh I would not have expected much of anything for WDW when they just announced/confirmed some VERY ambitious plans that work is only starting on this year. We still have 2 attractions from Monsters Inc with dining, a playground, and more, a retheme of RNRC, the total overhaul of AC, 2 attractions in Cars Land, 2 attractions in Villians land plus dining and shopping, 2 new attractions for Tropical Americas, 1 retheme of Dinosaur, new restaraunts/shopping etc, a new playground for TA, 1 new show with Zootopia, an overhaul of Buzz Lightyear, BTM.

That is 5 completely new attractions, 3 complete attraction rethemes, 1 smaller attraction retheme, 2 new playgrounds, a reworking/retheming of 2 existing "lands" with the full creation of 2 fully new lands (that have their own food/shopping/etc), and overhauls to 2 existing rides.

None of which have opened yet but all of which are expected in the next 5 years...

Seriously, what other theme park is doing all of that in just 1 resort. (Not even mentioing the new resort coming and changes that we just found out about)

That's a STACKED list for the next 5 years and Disney has made it a point that they heard the criticism and will not be doing the true Blue Sky anymore. If this is their plan for the next 5 years, it would probably be atleast 3 years before anything else major is beginning construction other than ride overhauls (SSE, Space Mount, Figment?) and those are hugeeeeeeee maybes.

To be fair, I too didn’t pay money to attend this one. I do plan on attending next year’s event.

The description for the Villains Panel does mention "new projects and attractions" .... I do think they have delivered on the minimum of the way things are worded but also can understand why people feel a bit disappointed

"9:05 - 9:50 AM | Disney Villains: Icons of Evil
Join Disney Experiences (and some of your favorite troublemakers) for a panel discussion on how Disney Villains experiences come to life around the world. Hear directly from the creative minds behind new projects and attractions, plus enjoy a special Villains-themed medley to kick off Destination D23 day 2."

Wait until the show they concept art for the Dubai castle but will have no update for US parks.

IF they do and IF it’s Agrabah I will warn you that I’ll be over the moon!

We got COP which I think shouldn’t be downplayed as a top 4 destination D announcement, historically.
