MK New Pirates of the Caribbean-themed lounge

Just over in the thread about the Floridian lobby redo and it really hit home how many of the resort’s recent changes are designed to get liquor into guests. I suppose sloshed customers spend money more readily and after the resort has abandoned all pretenses of “families doing things together,” why not?

Isn’t the Pirates lounge all ages?

We recently cruised on the DCL Treasure and there were many families in the Haunted Mansion Lounge.

Alcohol is easy money for Disney

But it's also become a normalized and integral part of the experience because so many guests and those within the company meet the description of "childless Millennial", or at least adults travelling without kids.

And overpriced, sugary drinks are considered part of the whole vacation vibe

Disney’s different though. Lots of families in Oga’s too because the theming is so good.
Even Pleasure Island had an age limit…

Disney could also make a really well themed casino. And heck, gambling is being pushed on kids more aggressively than ever before. Still, we probably don’t need to normalize every form of debauchery by making them Disney “family spaces” just to boost the megacorps quarterlies.

Next up: Goofy’s Gentlemen’s Club…

Pleasure island? Maybe certain clubs but most of the places were open to families.

We took our kids there when they were pretty young and they did line dancing at the Pink Armadillo, loved the rock bands at the Beach Club, we participated as a family at the Comedy Club and listed to Frankie and the West End Boys until the fireworks at the nightly New Year’s Eve party.

We must not have noticed the debauchery.

I feel you’re being a bit disingenuous here. Age limits at the clubs was 18 or 21, depending on the year. A few clubs - the ones you listed, remarkably - allowed younger guests with an adult. Before 2004, the entire Island was a ticketed attraction with even stricter controls.

It’s odd that you missed the debauchery because it’s a big part of why PI doesn’t exist anymore.

Remember when they first started selling wine at beasts castle - “it’s not like they are opening a bar! They are just serving French wine at dinner!”
Well, let me put it this way. Today's Disney is more concerned about sales numbers than they are about theme park philosophy these days. It is kind of ironic that this is the year that they decided to do the Walt Animatronic.

I was there several times -- I never got debauched.

I want a refund...
Don’t get me wrong, a little debauchery here and there isn’t a bad thing. But there’s a time and a place. And just like I’m deeply skeptical of gacha games that normalize gambling for children, I’m skeptical of Disney pushing bars as family entertainment to earn a few more dollars.

Ticketed but you could get it added to your key to the world card. We would have gone primarily in the 1990’s and there were a lot of families there then.

I just remember the Jazz club and Mannequins being restricted but it was a long time ago. It’s possible we just remember the ones I mentioned because they were the ones accessible to us.

Maybe it became more restricted later.

From this week, the crazy places that have the demon alcohol near kids (because apparently in your 50’s parochial society where ever alcohol is served you will have “sloshed customers.”

Rain forest cafe.
Dave & Busters Arcade/playcenter
The movies
Baseball stadiums(both professional and 12u sports complex)
Chucky cheese
The Lion king on Broadway

The primary point of a bar is to sell alcohol.

Is the primary point of any of those other spaces to sell alcohol?

The primary point of every business is to make money.

Is the primary point of MK now to sell alcohol because it happens to have a whopping 2 locations where you can get it?

Is the primary point of MK to sell hot dogs, because Casey's sells hotdogs?

Is it someone odd that i can go to rainforest cafe and have a beer, while my kids have a drink and/food and somehow we can both exist and enjoy the space, without wrestling with some esoteric BS about are they eating food in a bar, or am I drinking alcohol in a restaurant?

Do i an moan that certain restaurants have vegan options? Do i think that MK would be becoming anti-meat if they had a location that only served vegan options? Or do i recognize that different people enjoy different things, and that having more options is better than less?

They used to allow families to walk through the area and certain clubs until 7pm or so....then they would shift into Adult Mode... We were always annoyed at the young families that would go into the Adventurer's Club around 5pm and camp out until the entertainment started and it was ticketed guests only....The kids were always bored and screechy and really ruined the whole vibe. They should have stuck to the 21 and over only... There are a gazillion places for families and kids at WDW...I think it is fine for them to have some Adults Only spaces...
