I mean they can use the garland as their excuse...

But I wonder if the new equity rules make them not want to run two parades in one park ...
The DCA Wire Guy knows that his ride is gone and it's only a matter of time until the wires are yanked out for good, so his only way not to get pink slipped is to become the Disneyland Christmas Garland Guy.

Equity may or may not have something to do with it, but they were showing reluctance to do multiple parades well before any updated unions were under discussion.

I think it's just sheer laziness and/or cost cutting.

I've seen this iteration of PTN a few times now and it is lackluster to say the least. It just feels smaller now than it did in 2015, but lacks the charm of the MSEP.

The finale also sort of fizzles... This Jonas Brothers song does NOT have 'finale' weight. It's awkward and out of place.

What were you expecting? It's not new information that it's not as charming as MSEP, people were basically saying that opening night in 2015. PTN as it exists now is more or less the same parade it was ten years ago, minus the new finale song and the new intro, unless you really enjoyed that Incredibles float during its DCA run.

Are those two relatively minor changes really enough to change it from a great parade to a lackluster one, or are there other changes we're all missing?

I’m trying to do a few things we don’t do or rarely ever do on our DL Hotel staycation next month. Have Blue Bayou reservations. Trying to do Trader Sam’s. Get soaked on Grizzly River Run a few times at night and go straight to the room. Paint the Night was on the list too but I’m not sure it’ll be worth the effort. The kids will be half asleep or sleeping by the easier to see second showing and I’m not sure I want to camp out for hour(s) prior to the first showing. Anyone have any good tips to get a good/ decent spot for PTN with minimal effort? It also doesn’t help that one of our nights DCA will be closing at 6pm for Oogie Boogie making Disneyland a mad house.

Definitely want to catch Tapestry of Happiness and maybe that Skywalker projection show at GE.

Tapestry of Happiness is modest, but I really enjoyed it for what it is. One thing that might make it difficult to catch for your family, though, is that they don't even start showing it until after the fireworks at 10 PM.

I also caught the Skywalker projection show. The only thing that's odd is that they load the viewing area back-to-front, but I found it to be very well-done (for what the opinion of a non-SW fan is worth) and very easy to catch.

I wish I had PTN first show advice, but alas, I pretty much stuck to the second show, where I found it very easy to walk up to a good spot by IASW not long before showtime. Is the Plaza dining package on the table (allegedly you can get the meatloaf swapped out for the chicken)?

If it’s still available grab the Plaza Inn dining package. The viewing area is right next to the flag pole and you can show up as late as 15 mins before the parade starts. I did that this last trip and the view was great, no one blocking me.

And pro tip, you can get the food to-go (you can at almost any sit down restaurant on-property). Do that and take it back to your hotel if you don’t want to eat it right then.

Yeah I think I’m going to have to skip PTN since riding Grizzly River Run at night is higher priority and we wouldn’t be able to do that on the day DCA closes at 6pm meaning getting a decent spot for PTN will be that much harder with everyone hopping over from DCA. I did the Plaza Inn dining package for MSEP before and I wasn’t crazy about the spot or the fact that it wasn’t entirely stress free as you still have to try show up before other people who also purchased the dining package so you can get a spot on the curb. Good to know you can sub for chicken though. Last time I was stuck with whatever else they were serving. Roast I think.

I’ll just try to do Tapestry of Magic and the Skywalker show on the night DCA closes early. Maybe just wing it depending on the kids and try to catch the second PTN too

You're sort of highlighting my point. Disney of the last decade is far to fixated on tech... and misses the soul and charm that used to define their offerings, which means their offerings won't stand the test of time like they used to.

Changing the finale is not a minor change. It's sorta a huge one since it's meant to tie up the parade and is the last impression.

PTN in 2015 was a solid parade- at least due to the spectacle.

You're acting like this is brand new information when it's a decade-old parade.

They changed the music in a way that I thought was fine.

Seems to me you're just looking for reasons to complain.

In the Parks
No
Got home a few hours ago from my one day at Disneyland yesterday. I had planned to see all the nighttime events (PTN, WJ, Tapestry, Skywalker) but after a full day of the sun and humidity beating on me the last thing I wanted to go was stand in large crowds, so I rode rides and only caught the 8:45pm Skywalker show, which was pretty cool.

It wasn't one of my better trips to be honest. Even though it didn't get above 81 degrees, the humidity was killer and I felt sweaty and sticky all day and night. This was an experimental trip as it was my first from living in the Vegas area. The drive there was longer than the drive back because of a bad accident on I-15.

I stayed at the Clarion and used the Toy Story shuttle to get to and from the park. Literally walked right through bag check at Toy Story and when I got to the transportation hub the lines there for bag check were getting long, so I think that was the better choice than to walk to the gate from the hotel.

Lastly, since it was a Tier-2 ticket day it got pretty crowded. This was kind of a budget trip so I expected that. I think in the future I will go back to 2-day trips and use the 2-day ticket and book on Tier-6 days so the crowds are lighter and I still get lower cost of Tier-3 tickets. Plus, two days in the parks helps justify the drive since driving there and back within 2-days time is not fun.

The only "firsts" for me since my last trip (aside from 70th shows) was the new HM queue and gift shop, Walt Disney Magical Life, and new verse for Small World.

I of course bought LLMP so I can make the most of one day. Here's my ride total for the day:

- Indiana Jones
- Pirates of the Caribbean
- Haunted Mansion (twice)
- Tiana's Bayou Adventure
- Rise of the Resistance (almost did it a second time in the evening, but it broke down)
- Millennium Falcon (single rider twice)
- Snow White's Enchanted Wish
- Mickey & Minnie's Runaway Railway
- Roger Rabbit
- Small World
- Matterhorn (single rider)
- Space Mountain
- Buzz Lightyear
- Big Thunder Mountain
- Adventureland Treehouse
- Tiki Room
- Walt Disney - Magical Life

I did a couple of the MagicBand interactions and I always try to get in at least a round of Batuu Bounty Hunters.

Lunch: Red Rose Tavern
Dinner: Rancho del Zocalo

Snacks: Churro, Pineapple Juice at Tiki Juice Bar while waiting for Tiki Room, and a Blue Milk.

Yeah this was my takeaway when I first saw the parade in 2015. That it lacked the charm of MSEP and that the song was just too Pop(y) for Main Street/ Disneyland. Over the years it has grown on me due to a tiny bit of nostalgia (a lot was better back in 2016) and lack of a consistent nighttime parade at DL. Still though, I can’t see how replacing the finale with the Jonas Bros song wouldn’t be a downgrade.
