After my second viewing (and being able to see the full screen without moving my head….why do they put front rows so close in IMAX theaters?), I’m giving this a 4.5 out of 5. Like with Thunderbolts*, I wish this would have been a tad longer so we could spend more time with the characters and in Earth 828. Other than that, I absolutely loved the movie! Michael Giacchino did an amazing job on the score!

It’s very good but a bit hamstrung by the choice of story (a choice they sort of had to make).

It’s not an insult to say Thunderbolts was better, because Thunderbolts is one of the best superhero movies ever made.

Do you mean the best superhero ever made that was released in May 2025?

I kid. I liked it a lot but for me it was far from being a top tier superhero film.

This is a fantastic film (pun fully intended) the family dynamic is amazing and I need all the H.E.R.B.I.E merchandise I can get.
I was surprised the movie didn’t explain why the fantastic four were headed to earth in the thunderbolts post credits scene. Seems weird to hype it up with that and then have the movie not explain it. that said the mid credits scene gave me chills. I can’t Wait for avengers: doomsday.

It really needed 30 more minutes, more of a subplot for Ben, an opening fight scene, and a little more wackiness. It felt strangely somber.

I know they had to do Galactus, but I'd have rather watched them battling Mole Man and the forces of Subterranea.
My thoughts exactly. It just needed a smidgen more. Also I felt Galactus was.... meh?

I liked everything about it except the script. It fell into the third act problem where they had no idea how to pay off what they set up.

So what is this world? Oh, this is pretty cool. Oh, they're doing this... wow, okay. I am on board with this. Oh... umm okay.. that's dumb. How will... oh that's stupid. Of course... yep it did.

Possible post-credits spoilers below (I don’t know how to do spoiler tags):

I was a bit baffled by the Darwin gag - Franklin has incredible powers but he’s not a genius like Reed. Then I realized that they’re paving the way for Frank to create mutants.

Franklin has had many abilities over the years, including the ability to will anything into reality. So I don't think they were doing a "Darwin gag" as you call it. Unless I'm misunderstanding your reference here, Darwin's powers weren't even on display for Franklin. Everything they showed appeared to be in-line with how Franklin's powers are shown in the comics.

The post-credits sequence shows he’s a four year old whose favorite book is Origin of the Species. Normally that would be a joke that the toddler is a genius, but Franklin usually isn’t.

Got it, you're not talking about Darwin the character but the book, as Franklin's powers are usually tied to bending reality and blinking things into existence, I think that was the reference they were going for there. That as you mentioned this might be how they bring mutants into the 616.

Cross posting my comment from the box office thread-

The reality of F4 is, when I got back and spoke with a couple of friends who would go see it, my statement to them was... "Eh, it's good, but not great, wait to watch it on D+"

It wasn't a "OH YEAH, you GOTTA see it asap!"
