In a new notice on the Walt Disney World website, Disney says that the lobby at Pop Century Resort will undergo a refurbishment featuring a retro-inspired design, with work starting today and expected to continue through early October.

Here's the full notice:
From July 21 through early October, the lobby at Disney’s Pop Century Resort will be getting a retro-inspired refresh. The lobby will remain open during construction and all amenities will still be available. Guests may hear or see maintenance in the area until work is complete.

Really hope they keep the memorabilia on the wall.

I can see it now - Check-in kiosks instead of desks, a bright yet washed out color scheme dominated by white, beige, cream, and brown, LED lighting, and authentic retro-inspired furniture from IKEA.

I'm excited for this. The current lobby doesn't Pop! the way it should. Especially since this is such a highly trafficked hotel. It always felt very late 80s early 90s.

As someone who stays at Pop often, I'm glad they're investing in it. Rooms, grounds, foodcourt/store, and now the lobby, which needs a refresh, imo.

Rates have gone significantly up at this resort since the Skyliner, so at least we can see some of our money at work.

Just as a side comment, I stayed there this past April and saw that the paint on Mowgli's feet was in very bad shape, it was peeling and chipping. Stayed there again 3 weeks ago, and it had been fixed neatly. Nice to see that they're keeping an eye on things.

It was needed, the lobby looked a bit out of place next to the newly updated gift shop and food court.

Just hope they don't go on a slow down like they have with the room refurbs going on at the moment. They got the entire of building 1 done in about 3 weeks, then seemed to get stuck on building 2 and 3 for a couple of months with very little being done.

I'm such a sucker for those shadowboxes on display...I was happy to find the life magazine of WDW grand Opening at a antique store...

But, there was one that always stuck out with me since it just looked it was just to tie in with the live action My Favorite Martian movie from Disney bit seeing this is one of the more memorable items I have seen there displayed.

Very cool!

I take time to go see those shadowboxes every time I stay at Pop, even when I don't need to go to the front desk.

Wish I knew about this refurb three weeks ago, now I'm sad that I never thought of taking pictures of every single one. Maybe they're somewhere in the webs?

This site has a archive of photos from different areas of the resort...
