There's a pretty decent chance this is why we haven't seen anything yet. It probably makes the most sense for park ops and the bottom line to gut the ride and go in a different direction.

But how can you replace Figment?
I wonder if it would work if they did an inside out ride like through Riley’s brain with a stop/show scene in imagination land where figment makes an appearance so he’s not completely gone but it’s more of an inside out ride than completely figment ride

They did that in 1998 with the into your imagination version. Figment made a few cameos. People didn’t like it.

Ha, let it be known I am not the boy who cried Figment. I think this is the first time I’ve really ever thought it was semi imminent in my posting history.

The other major factors swaying me is lightening lane monetization, their Turbocharging mantra, their current exec and inside out 2. With a splash of Epcot being oddly absent for any investment In the next five years cycle.
All of this makes perfect sense. And I agree with you. Figment is popular, and TT was received well. I think we’re gonna get a good redo. Imagineering is great as of late. When is the big question.

But with how mythological figment 4.0 has become, sometimes I do feel people need to keep expectations in check. Yes, there’s a good chance it’ll probably be the same track/no upstairs return, or some combination of the two. But even with that, I feel we are very likely gonna get something really good with figment. I trust imagineering not to mess this up.

I think figment is insanely popular with park fans. But I don't think he's popular at all with the population at large.
Figment is not popular with the general public because his ride is not popular with the general public. Even the fans who love figment only like the 1983 not farting in your face figment, which is also the version of him many of the general public are not familiar with. If a new figment ride opens and is received well, I think figment will be more popular with the general public than he is now.

I bet it’s probably gonna be like test track 3.0 In the sense that people will think its much better than the current version but the og version is better.

Inside Out replacing Figment isn’t like, still potentially happening, is it? Figment sells way more merch than Joy or Sadness or whoever. Wouldn’t a new Figment ride be a better idea because it’d get even more merch sold?

I think it’s a bit of a chicken and egg situation. He’s not as popular with casual guests because his ride isn’t great, but his ride isn’t refurbed and improved because he isn’t popular with casual guests.

They really need to bite the bullet and redo it- if they give people a good ride, they will like him.

Yeah, but Inside Out 2 did make a billion dollars so Iger might overrule him
Disney knows they can't kill figment without a wave of boos hurling towards the D23 stage. Inside out having representation in the parks is very likely, but as a replacement to JII, I highly doubt it. I think the most likely thing that will happen is Inside out takes the home of the short film festival theater.

Place your bets now on what's inevitably going to be announced to be leaving out of nowhere. Do I hear 25 for carousel? 30 for Figment?!
Nah I genuinely do think they are gonna slow down on the replacements tbh. They have shown that they are listening to guest feedback in a few ways and I think other than the ones that they really want to push for other reasons, I would expect most rides are "safe" for right now.

Is he still relevant? I would just think some generic pirates come up on the stage to announce the opening..
He is among a certain demographic, but among people around my age, he is only brought up to speak about how disliked he is. Can't get into the reasons why here, but I'm sure you can guess. It's not been a secret the last few years.

If they pull the trigger on him coming back into the fray, there will be a segment of audiences who are excited and a segment who will be very unhappy. Disney is gonna have to weigh which one is gonna be more impactful.
