Walt Disney – A Magical Life

Every AA breaks down... I really don't think it's news.
And thanks to a healthy dose of pixie dust, you really don't care, do you? Who cares if Disney shows an OFFICIAL video ride-through of Tiana's Bayou Disaster with the Tiana AA paralyzed and its eyes crossed? Who cares if the Yeti AA in Expedition Everest has been broken for over a decade and not a finger has been lifted to try to fix it? What's the big deal if an AA meant to represent the Walt Disney Company's founder breaks down on its first day, wobbles and rolls its eyes and actually looks like the My Pillow Guy? Wow. Pixie dust is a hell of a drug.

I think you might want to scroll up and see what I was responding to. The fact that the Walt AA broke down in front of guests on the first day. I am saying that and only that is not a big deal. Its a 1 off prototype robot... it will break down on occasion and yes sometimes that will be in front of guests.

Don't catastrophize my post to make a point.

Confirmation. The head fits better, the sculpt is still off, there's a confirmation of scores on this site and around the world who have only seen what has been shown online. Those who have seen the display, come out readdressing the same issues (and even a few more). The brows and mustache are better, not right, but better. The 'twinkle' is fixed and a nice touch. The face is better when it is looking at the audience. The profile is off. But, wouldn't have been better to get it 100% perfect prior to putting it on show? Why disappoint the masses who were expecting to see more than an advancement of AA? The AA movements are advanced, that is a given. The movement of the body from the leaning position to an upright stand with the fluidity of the right leg moving was very nice. From the collar of the shirt down movements, they have advanced AA from the past. Who knows, maybe they will continue to exchange the mask/face as the display 'lives on' into the future. The display will continue to be shown (hopefully without future mishaps). It will give them additional time to tailor the pant cuffs, fill in the legs so the pants appear to be full, ease the button on the coat, and possibly come up with a method that will allow the neck of the shirt to move with the neck. Time will tell.

I don’t get the they needed our feedback to make adjustments that could happen overnight.

Not really coming in hot. I used to be one of those people that walked around the park looking for chipped paint, lightbulbs burned out, etc. Putting everything under a microscope ruined the experience for me. This Tiana thing, while apparently not perfect, is not ruining the experience for me (whether via video or in person) as it is just one small component of the attraction. I can guarantee you that prior to social media, and when Walt was alive, attractions had issues. We just didn't have bloggers, vloggers and hardcore fans that dissected every single aspect of every part of the parks. If I'm going to complain, it's going to be about longer lines, increased prices, lack of entertainment...not one animatronic that appears to have issues in a video most people won't notice.

I thought you came in kind hot on your first post back. Anyway, we don’t suffer from amnesia. Today it’s the ride through. Yesterday was ugly Walt. Last year was misspelled Disney 100 signs all over the resort. Or the lackluster Tiana overlay. Now does most of this stuff affect my time in the park? Nope, not really minus the Tiana conversion but I’m always going to call a spade a spade when I’m discussing in a Disney theme park forum.

I feel like I'm looking at that game where you try to find six or seven differences in two nearly identical pictures. Problem is I only have one picture to go off of. 😳

I can't really admit that I'm seeing a difference. Anyone got some good before and afters?

Soooo why is this big fancy new animatronic attraction only open until 8 PM?

I was told that this thing was going to be impossible to see and we needed virtual queue, and yet Walt seems to be going to bed earlier than Lincoln ever did IIRC.
Probably some combo of needing to work on the new AA overnight + the required staffing. Opera House has a ton of CMs working rn.

BTW, I think I get why they’re using VQ. There’s basically zero space for a queue and the current temp queue blocks backstage access for CMs so they have to break it up often to make a bridge for CMs and guests leaving the Opera House. So VQ hopefully shouldn’t last too long past opening weekend.

When Walt was alive, AA was in its infancy. You know there's no way to forget many, many years ago when air dropped out of Mr. Lincoln and he fell back into his chair. Right after that happened, a member in the audience shouted out, "Mr. Lincoln has been shot...again." Yes, there are more like this (like the 'terror' in the Tiki Room), but, the past is the past.
They were in the 'baby steps' days back then.

When TV shows (or movies) have an error or outtake, they retake the shot. They will use that other shot for a blopper reel. They don't show those outtakes to the 'lay audience' (that's us) unless they use it for filler or at the end of a movie or show (A good example is what Tim Allen did with the outtakes on "Home Improvement").

When it comes to presenting this costly display that looks great from the time you step through the doors and everything looks 100% perfect from top to bottom; it should continue throughout the entire idea. In this case, unfortunately, it seems like (maybe) it was a 'rush job' to complete the AA display for the anniversary.

Now, after so many people have outwardly commented on the head so much, maybe those who are/were in charge of it might consider correcting it (as soon as possible) for the sake of if for nothing else to get it right. and please...correct the tailoring of Walt's suit too.

Make Walt's memory a proud one and don't shirk on the responsibility that 'this' is the best you can do...please.

Animatronics have never looked like real people. I'm not sure what people were expecting.

I'm still not a big fan of this project at all, but drawing the line at how the robot looks is weird.

This is an photo of Mr. Lincoln from the New York World's Fair display in 1964-1965. Blaine Gibson used a life mask to create this magnificent wonder of that time. What's happened to Mr. Lincoln? What's happened to so many of the presidents in the Hall of Presidents? The old question the continues to raise up from so many people who walk out of the that display, "Why don't the heads look as good as they once did?" In regards to "Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln" display, there is nothing wrong with a progression, but really, look what they have done to what was once a classic Disney presentation.

Now, those 'experts' have taken the man who gave us all "The place to where dreams come true" and recreated their idea that goes as far as their abilities. It outwardly shows where their importance is when presenting this AA of Walt. It could have been 100% spot on just as Blaine did with Mr. Lincoln over sixty years ago.

Heavy sigh..The initial opinion or perception someone forms in that first meeting, is formed within seconds. That first impression will be what all of the attendees will have from this point forth. They should have gotten it right before the first words came out. "To improve is to change; to be perfect is to change often." Winston Churchill

Oh come on man. uncalled for.

This is clearly a theme park forum talking about a theme park attraction. You don't need to be an expert to have an opinion and express it especially in a forum like this.
Sculpting is an expert art form that can be amazing. To watch an artist look at a 8 x 10 photo and create a three dimensional clay head that looks like it could speak is totally amazing. Blaine Gibson had that talent. How is it possible there aren't others who have similar abilities? All it takes is to find those who can and allow them to create the masters for the AA team.
