Walt Disney – A Magical Life

I’m wondering now if that’s why I felt like it looks more like Walt 😂

lol I’d need to see a side by side. I’m not sure I’ve actually seen the updated one. Just basing what I said off how I feel now and every time I see another imagine of the AA. I doubt there is anything they could usher down that quickly to make such a huge difference. If so, wouldn’t they have already done it?

Possible this is part of the reason for the delay from the original May 16th date. And that because they had a hard drop opening date of the 17th in time for the birthday they just went with the original face while still continuing to work on the updated one.

Scott Gustin has some great words about this attraction.

"Overall, I’d say this show is a definite win for Disneyland, even if it has a few imperfections. I’d encourage everyone to go in with an open mind and appreciate what Disney can achieve when genuine passion is behind a project. The team clearly put a lot of care into honoring Walt, and that effort really comes through. I also think it’ll be exciting to watch this figure evolve over time. Disney has a history of refining and updating its Audio-Animatronics, so it’s a safe bet that Walt will see some improvements over the next 70 years."
Reading this quote by Mr. Gustin, "...even if it has a few imperfections..." is disappointing because he didn't come out and state what those imperfections were to the reader. He saw the entire display and that was what he was reviewing. To the reader, they will be curious of what he meant. When they see the figure, they will then understand why Mr. Gustin also mentioned, "...so it’s a safe bet that "Walt" will see some improvements over the next 70 years..." This wasn't 'their best' attempt. Hopefully, those who are responsible for "Walt" won't take 70 years to correct what the audience will see. Maybe, (with fingers crossed) they are working on it now. Maybe they should have stepped back and observed the creation on all angles and accepted outside opinions. They had an idea and they believed they could achieve success. Walt said once, "When you believe in a thing, believe in it all the way, implicitly and unquestionable."

Yes I considered this but IMO if you are that far off you delay again and wait til you have it right. Easier said than done I know but I think it he was too far off and you have to go with quality control.

Unfortunately when you have a specific date you have to hit sometimes you just release and fix it after, I know this very well being in the tech industry. I mean how much would we be talking and ragging on Disney if they delayed again, lots I bet. So yeah it was a downer for the previews, but having just watched the video from CNN that @MisterPenguin posted I can say it down look a lot better. Still not perfect of course, but we already figured it would probably never be perfect. So yeah its a lot better, and that is the important thing.

Also think about this, the old joke in the entertainment industry is that no press is bad press, and look it got us all talking about it. And now that they released that "real" better one that is indeed better than the "preview" one we're starting to have a more positive outlook. If I was into conspiracy theories I'd say Disney did this on purpose, but I don't buy into that stuff.

This face does look better than the one that was shown during previews that we all have been commenting on. So I have to assume they either got delayed and just went with a test one for previews or they were intentionally holding back the better version for the actual debut today.

I will say he does look better to me in that first clip of the video @MisterPenguin shared but I can’t tell if that’s just because of the lighting or the angle. Is he perhaps a little less thick in the neck there?

I don't know if it is indeed a new mask, but it looks slimmer and does look like it fits better on the head. To me the eyebrows also look like they've been styled and trimmed down, not so bushy.

Again not perfect, and it may never be, but still 100% better than the original one we've been talking about.

It’s wild. As soon as it switches to the clip we were all critiquing yesterday he noticeably looks worse. In the first clip his face does appear to be longer with the neck not as thick. Eyebrows like you said also don’t look as intense. I’m not sure I can definitively say it’s anything other than lighting and the angle though.

Dunno, it could be a new mask, or it could be the same one and they went in overnight and redid its fitting on the head and updated it a bit like the eyebrows.

I think the takeaway here is the Disney listened to the critiques and did something about it right away instead of just letting it sit until the refurb.

So what ever they did I say bravo, and applaud them. Hopefully they continue to try and adjust it as time goes on and it continues to get better. It seems like they want this to be a showcase for the technology, so I wouldn't be surprised if that happens.

Just came out of the show (photo proof below), and I’ll just say as apprehensive as I was entering the show, I truly got misty eyed by the end.

Iger’s contributions in the narration are minimal (as it should be); I think it’d be great to see the torch continue to be passed on to each new CEO. The show is mostly narrated by Walt, and the audio clips from the short film really help you acclimate to the audio-animatronic’s sound when Walt appears.

The moment at the end when Walt leans back on his desk and considers the audience for a moment was what got me. Call me a pixie duster, but that was Uncle Walt right there.

I say give the show a fair shot and see it in person.

Glad you enjoyed it and good to hear. Is his mustache there?
