I think that is true. I do think

A) that people who think the loss of the river is "no big deal, I never ride the boat" are underestimating the impact of the existence of the river

But also

B) the majority of guests will love Piston Peak and gain more value from it and people saying the loss of the river will never be overcome are overestimating the effect of the river

I’ve never suggested that guests won’t like piston peak - if it’s well done (or even mediocre like 7 dwarves) guests will indeed enjoy it.

Guests would also like a rollercoaster to replace the jungle cruise and treehouse I’m sure.

At some point…. It ceases to be Walt Disneys Magic Kingdom. Not sure where that point is.

I don’t see how. People like different things. The idea of national parks being represented in Frontierland doesn’t seem far-fetched to me and it will allow an attraction that kids will love and actually ride. Kids love to drive cars.

The argument is largely that the Rivers of America are vital to the thematic integrity, peace, tranquility and storytelling of an entire quadrant of the park. Even if you did not actually step foot on its attractions, you are interacting with its effect the entire time you waltz through Frontierland.

There may have been mild tolerance for adaptation or modification, but not removal. A physical barrier wall, no matter how potentially pretty it could be, is not an equivocal exchange.

Tantmount to London filling in the Thames or Paris the Seine. It’s not merely a matter of a disruptive modern building, it simply is no longer the same place.

Still somehow longer standby lines with lower attendance overall.

Attendance declines do seem to be commensurate with wait time improvement. Though I acknowledge there has been a ton of structural changes that could impact the parks, they are a more pleasant wait time experience today than the back half of last decade.

I think it will take a lot - and Piston Peak will potentially add to it not take away from it

Having visited a lot of other theme/amusement parks there is a ton separating Disney and the the rivers of America is not the only thing and if done right the end result could into distance itself from other options

No, but it’s another in a list of questionable results, especially in the category of “they know this is important and really have to deliver.”

We've seen a lot of that in recent years, even for things that should have been straightforward and routine

(like the 2020 repaint of the castle)

Everything I’ve seen about Piston Peak reminds me of something Herschend would build. Which is fun - Herschend does great things. But it shrinks the gap for me that’s for sure.

Indeed. I have a very permissive line in the sand. But if this Cars attraction was being plopped in the DAK water amphitheater instead I might be willing to punch a throat or two.

Personally I think this would be great in Showcase lagoon! As long as they landscape it so I don’t see Car elements from Germany or Japan

There is absolutely nothing at Dollywood, Silver Dollar City, or any of the other parks owned by Herschend that would approach Piston Peak if Disney does even their average standard rock work in the area.

Herschend wouldn’t even build a ride like this to begin with. They would just build another exposed steel coaster and call it a day.

Saying Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island aren't worth much as most people only look at it and don't visit anything inside....................Cinderella Castle most people only look at too, and it would be revered even if it didn't have a restaurant inside and....do they still have the boutique thing?

Anyway my point is not everything has to be an attraction to add a great amount to the experience.

Magic Kingdom is just as sacred as Disneyland in its own way. The point of MK is not to keep everything the same as it is, it's to grow and to change just like America, and change is what makes MK sacred.

Change does not make anything “sacred.” What makes MK important is quality. Change for the sake of change is pointless. Change is only an improvement if what comes after is better than what was there before. As others have mentioned, once you change something enough, it is no longer the same.
