MK Cars-Themed Attractions at Magic Kingdom

That was me. Disney calls out nine franchises in their 10Q’s and Cars was last in the top nine in 2022, when Stitch overtook its spot in 2023.

The combo of tracking the 10Q and these very recent comments from Deadline would lead me to believe Cars is now either 10th or 11th. The other franchise frequently mentioned but not currently in Disney’s 10Q is Lion King. Knowing that just had a 2024 film entrant, it’s possible Cars has fallen to 11th. But either way the revenue is both beyond its prior peak, but also not insignificant.

The reckless priorities of the company that they feel they need a Cars attraction warrants this effort, would be the third clue the revenue remains still significant.

They recently signed a licensing and/or partnership deal with NASCAR in 2024.

I know many posters here give the current iteration of this company no props whatsoever. But there is no way that they rip out what some here apparently deem the nostalgic heart of this park for a somewhat dubious IP choice if it fell off the face of the Earth in terms of popularity (ie not a revenue generator of some kind).

I think they are looking at how ridiculously popular RSR is in DCA. If it reaches that level of popularity here it is a guaranteed money maker in terms of ILL sales. Then add the merchandise sales on top of that. This would fit their later parks operating model perfectly. I mean, like it or not, this is a guiding principal for them. How much revenue do they generate from the ROA and TSI? Can they monetize either of these with an ILL? That would be No and No, respectively. Cars is an easily recognizable brand that will generate revenue. YMMV as to whether it fits or not.

Can I be unpopular and say that’s fine? We are in the US, it’s somewhat redundant to have Americana at the parks. I wouldn’t want a Francophone ride at Paris either. I would take the train to Paris, or Versailles, for that experience.

That is a fair take.
I think it is also fair that with Walt's mission words and concept of the American Mythos and Americana are a bit different. American Mythos brings in the Caribbean fantasy version of piracy and fairy tales from other cultures.
I think The Americana Mythos is also another barrier that encouraged(Obviously never guranteed) direction that avoids a tribute to corporate flavors of the decade.

Neither the number of attractions nor the number of restaurants has any bearing on this area's status as a land. It is a land if and only if the PARK MAP says so.

In the absence of a map, currently, we can only refer to the quoted "within Frontierland," i.e., not a land of its own.

I like "subland," personally.
The park maps for Hong Kong Disneyland once listed City Hall as an attraction.

The rules are quite fast and loose with what Disney calls a land... See Commissary Lane at DHS and Performance Corridor at DCA

If people were *really* concerned about noise pollution from a ride, they'd be non-stop bellyaching from the piped in narration of the People Mover. It's not in each car. It's blared at the vehicles as they pass by. Meaning it's blared at guests walking underneath. I would love to have leisurely seat in Tommorowland where there is indeed a lot of bench-like seating, but the same phrase blared over and over again makes that impossible if I want to keep my sanity.

And, of course, if people were *really* concerned about noise pollution from a ride, they'd be screaming non-stop to have Speedway shut down.

Interestingly enough, hearing the talking voices of TL around the area and from the People Mover might be one of my favorite parts of TL in general! I feel like it needs a rehaul and update with screens, voices, fake news bulletins -- a Futuristic Times Square of sorts.

I could definitely do without the Speedway & smell of gasoline though. THAT's for sure.

I do enjoy hearing the PM spiel (maybe if I was a CM in the area I would get sick of it lol)

Interesting idea to make that are like a futuristic Time Sq - would make it stand out in comparison to other lands but could be overwhelming as well

Wish they would just make an update to the speedway to make them electric, etc. Hong Kong had a great version that was electric and the cars made almost like Jetsons sounding noises when you accelerated, felt a bit "futuristic"

Then don’t point people to them for “hints”.

Sorry, but these are hints. Hints of where they are more likely than not to build something in the future. I never said it was intent or planned, just space where they are more likely to look to build in the future.

Disney has done the work to change the suitability of land even relatively recently. They’re driving piles right now to deal with less suitable land. More importantly those drawings are out of date because of this project.

:Looks at concept art of Piston Peak:
But this Cars area was never created with the intent of people spending 30-45 minutes wandering and exploring-the allure all along with this has been the attractions, and the majority of visitors to WDW are there mainly for the attractions. Just because a land/area has themed space, doesn't mean that it was designed for people to explore, and not many would explore it anyway. If TSI had a ride attraction that Disney could attach a paid LL to, it would probably still be operating. Modern WDW guests love to speedrun the parks, and Disney capitalizes on that by selling them ways to get through the line quicker and onto the next ride; themed spaces in newer areas are there just to spread the guests out, and I'm sure this new area will be the same. We'll never see another new area/attraction that was built for the sole purpose of exploration and discovery.

Sure everything and anything can change. That's why I said it can be a hint and not an announcement for a D23 panel.

I think this assessment is wrong, especially with regards to your rigid definition of the Cars area. Yes, it houses attractions the intent there is clear, but the park essentially acts as a holding area, the same way Grizzly Peak Airfield acts as a holding area for Grizzly River Run, to allow guest to wander in the interim or before boarding. You're correct in that it's not a destination play-place but it does have leisure activities woven in. Per the concept art, it looks to retains some of TSI's core activities. If you don't think people will spend 30-45 minutes exploring Piston Peak... I think you're mistaken. We'll agree to disagree. As for LLs... they'll be sold regardless.

We have no idea what we are going to end up with in this Carsland in the MK.

There will probably be scope cuts along the way.

All we can do is wait the 3 to 5 years and see what happens.

Why didn’t they just go all in with a Cars Land instead of half-a*s-ing it? I have no issue with Cars. It simply doesn’t belong in Frontierland.

I’ve said repeatedly that if they want to change Frontierland into Cars Land, that would be a little weird thematically, but whatever. Instead they’re tearing out one of the most aesthetically and sensory pleasing aspects of the park to wedge in some cars with googley eyes.

The fact is that the current leadership at the Walt Disney Company have done the impossible and taken an unsinkable ship and made it sinkable. They made poor choices and now we’re seeing the result. The company is not the moneymaker it once was.

Like Epcot, this abomination has nothing to do with some Imagineering genius. They’re simply going with the cheapest option.

I’m sure this will generate profits in the short term, but only after selling more of the soul. Rivers Of America did not need to be torn out, they didn’t need to remove the riverboat.
