Walt Disney – A Magical Life

Thank you to several of you for correcting me, I must be remembering something else or a rumor that didn't happen (or yet to happen) ;)

Well guess someone is going to have to go to the D23 event on the 18th and ask Imagineers how they are going to do the rotation from a technical aspect. Or hopefully MC or some other Disney site will think to ask and we'll get the answer.
Back when the project was just a rumor and not officially announced, there were permits for Disney building a turntable on the stage that would allow for two sets to be up there. I have to imagine that is the solution.

Thank you, that is probably what I'm remembering. And indeed I suspect that to be the solution as well, I can't imagine they'll have a manual change over daily when both shows are in rotation.

Yes it’s on a turntable. The Lincoln show is already installed along with Walt and ready to go. They’ll run Walt only for a while, and when ready flip a switch to alternate shows.

I suspect it’ll be one after the other.

So do we think they’ll run both shows in the same day? That’d be so cool.

How about adding a Frederick Douglass show to the mix?

How about bringing back Carousel of Progress?

Yes. I believe the plan is for the shows to alternate.

Walt
Lincoln
Walt
Lincoln

Etc.

Of course they could decide to run it differently, and do one show for first half of day, other show into the evening.

Can they do that? Does the stage & animatronic change with the snap of a finger?

I do wonder if they'll do a one show half of the day, the other the other half, as the sign in front has a small space for showtimes, so they won't state every showtime for each show. Unless it says every hour on the hour or every hour on the half hour, I can see them saying something like Lincoln 9-3, Walt 3-9

in the concept art, you can see that the surrounding set for both walt and lincoln doesn't take up the whole stage and is more "compact" compared to the original lincoln set - that also lends credence to the turntable idea, i noticed

I don't know anyone who has physically seen the turntable, but I do know a CM who saw the auditorium through open doors a few months ago. They were walking past the north side and the doors to the exit lobby and into the theater were open. They could see that the stage and front half of the auditorium had been excavated. The bottom of the proscenium ended at the level of the removed stage. At the front of the remaining audience risers there was a new pony wall, suggesting that the wheelchair section would be immediately in front of it. They couldn't see very far down, but they could see at least 4--6 feet so I would guess it goes down to an actual basement.

I think the concept of the turntable is pretty much set. And there's really no more efficient way to do it.

Hopefully Lincoln won't be pushed to the last few hours of the day like Impressions de France was.

Ah… should have guessed that’s how they’d do it… there’s barely any room to fit any sort of queue…
