MK Cars-Themed Attractions at Magic Kingdom

But this kind of highlights a huge issue with the project: they have to try and make the land look as little as possible like what it is in order to minimise how much it clashes with the surrounding areas.

Ultimately, this is a land populated solely by anthropomorphic cars in which built structures and geological features take on the features of car parts. So, all of that will have to be in there for the land to make sense. In order to prevent it looking like they have just stuck a big pile of wide-eyed cartoon talking cartoon cars into the middle of Frontierland and Liberty Square, however, they are having to try and de-emphasize these aspects as much as possible in favour of generic national park-style architecture and hide as much of it as possible, including the land's main landmark, from the surrounding areas with rock work and trees.

It really should be a red flag when a themed land has to disguise its theme.
As long as it looks mostly real from the outside, it doesn't matter to me if there are cars nods - as there will be - when we are inside the area.

My money is still on the star of this attraction will be a girl car.

Not based on anything just a feeling.
Based on what we know so far it seems like the attraction will be a mostly scenic ride with what seems like only one dark ride scene. (Rainbow caverns?) my guess is that lightning and mater will appear only at beginning and end and you will be the star of the rally race. In other words based on the information we have it is unlikely that any main character girl car will be in the attraction. Keep in mind that this is not an endorsement of this project. I am debunking a weird and random “criticism “

I mentioned to my fourteen year old daughter that the Rivers of America were officially closed. Unprompted, she started loudly complaining that removing the river was a ridiculous decision that would ruin the vibes of the Haunted Mansion. She has been to WDW three times over ten years.

Regular guests notice this stuff too. It's not just us lunatics.

This isn’t going to be cars land at all. It’s going to be Frontierland with a Cars attraction. Wish the “land” talk would stop already.
Agreed. The National Park theme for this area fits in well with the western US "Frontierland" idea. I just hope the people who don't want this to happen will never visit it, making more room for us who do.

Only time will tell. Lets see what we end up with in 3 to 5 years when this opens for testing/previews. ;)

Disneys definition of a land seems to be 2 attractions from the same IP and lots of fancy rockwork. So this seems to qualify.
Where does Disney have this definition listed, or is it just another fan-made definition claimed to be official? I'm sure the last time we had this discussion, the definition of a land also included a shop and restaurant until someone pointed out that there isn't an announced restaurant for Piston Peak. Compared to the Villains Land announcement mentioning 2 attractions, multiple restaurants and shops

Wow. I’ve never wished someone didn’t visit Disney because they disagree with me on an attraction or show.

You don’t have to call it a land - we don’t know how “pistons peak” will be listed on the map. Just saying it fits the definition so I understood those calling it a land.

I took the time to map out the size of the area we're working with, based on other "360/walk around" areas. Here's some rough comparisons. I will say, this makes me even more concerned about scale here - especially since forced perspective will be very difficult.

These are basically just the area/attraction perimeters. I didn't include surrounding walkways, as we know they plan to reuse the existing FL and LS walkways.

-Pandora (just the garden section - not including the mountains or FOP queue) - 1000'
-BTMRR DL - 1300'
-TOT (with queue, exit and forested area) - 1300'
-7DMT - 1350'
-BTMRR MK - 1400'
-ROA Lower Half MK/Cars MK - 1600'
-Discovery Island (interior paths and Tee of Life) - 1600'
-Celebration Gardens (basically from SSE, between the buildings, to the start of the WS Bridge) - 1600'
-MK Hub (just the land in the center from Mainstreet to the Castle Stage) - 1750'
-Grizzly River Run - 1900'
-Radiator Springs Racers (ride only) - 2200'
-Toystory Land DHS (not including show buildings) - 2400'
-CarsLand - 3100'
-World Showcase Lagoon - 5200

-Condor Flats (interior areas, not including the Soarin' building or Napa restaurant complex) - 2700

So, I think the Grizzly River Run is a good comparison for concept. And, this means the whole Cars attraction and secondary attraction will need to fit in an area smaller than the footprint of Grizzly River Run itself.

If anyone wants any other comparisons, let me know!

I understood and appreciated what Disney did when I first attended WDW the year it opened as a third grader.
I was hardly a lunatic.

I count 4 indoor sections. I think part of purple is load/unload. Yellow seems quite extensive, blue and pink seem pretty short and might just be caves.
I know it's just concept art... but there are at least 4 indoor sections (Yellow, blue, pink, and purple)

I've come to terms of not calling it a land... but it is quite land like compared to most new lands.
Of course officially, this is not it's own land and is part of Frontierland... All I am trying to say is, I think it's quite common for people to use a non-official term... (There are no rides at WDW only attractions)

Disney for 70 years as primed it's fans to take a theme of an area and stick a word in front of "land" for naming an area.

Disney has spent the last 13ish years telling us that a new plot of land themed to a single IP is it's own distinct thing and it's own land. (Cars land, Pandora, TSL, SWGE, Avengers Campus, TSL (shanghi), Zootopia Land, World of Frozen, Avengers Campus (HKDL), Avengers Campus (DAW), and soon Frozen Kingdom (DAW).)

I think this is the first time in Disney history that 2 rides are themed to the same IP opening at the same time and is not called it a "land". However, by most definitions from the past 13 years... its a new land even if Disney doesn't want to call it that.

I'm willing to bet my bottom Disney dollar it'll be what amounts to a clone of Grizzly River with Cars slapped on and a different ride system (though the Cars track should be roughly the same size as the flume GR rafts float down). Similar theming, style, size of attraction, etc. I've heard this from a "source" but I don't and will never claim to be an insider. I just have a friend of a friend of a friend who works for corporate so take that with 47 billion metric tons of salt. Also heard to not get excited about any of the water elements, ha. It does track with what we know regarding rough estimates of size and scope.
