So my 16yo doesn’t remember DL (but we’re definitely Disney fans) and serendipitously we ended up scheduling his upcoming trip to be there 7/18. Is it likely that anything ends up happening that morning/day or do we think it’s just folded into the 70th? We’re from Texas and don’t generally travel/attend events so…🤷‍♂️
If you're talking specifically about something for DLs official birthday, they celebrate it on the 7/17 as that is what the company uses as "opening day" since that is when the televised opening happened, even though 7/18 is the first public day of operation. On the 17th in various years they done various different things, but at minimum they play Walt's dedication speech at ~7:45a prior to Park opening over the loud spakers and sometimes displayed at various areas of the Park on large screens for guests.

This year a new Walt animatronic show called "Walt Disney - A Magical Life" will also debut on the 17th in the Main St Opera House and will available exclusively during the rest of the 70th anniversary before its put into regular rotation with the Lincoln animatronic show.

Unfortunately 7/18 will be a regular 70th anniversary day nothing "extra".

Thanks! I had no idea!

That’s great- as we’re supposed to explore LA on the 18th and I’m glad we’re not missing anything special by a few hours

Problems continue for the castle projections during Wondrous Journeys..

Stopped midway through right around Almost There segment.

How does this constantly keep happening? I don't understand how Disneyland keeps having problems with their Castle projections yet. I don't think I've ever seen happily ever after performed without projections ever.

It would be so interesting to see a HEA without castle projections. Wondered if they ever programmed the castle lights as a B-mode. But I don't think its ever happened yet. Cinderella Castle's projectors are very strong and reliable.

DL’s are likely older. Unless they have been replaced those projectors are 10 years old (debuting with DL Forever in 2015) and MK’s are only 8 years old debuting with HEA in 2017.

They just recently replaced them about a year ago so that can't be it.

It’s clearly because the weather in SoCal is so brutal!

Looks like Castle Projections worked for all of WJ last night. Also for some reason, DL likes to do both Pyro Modes of WJ on Mondays.......

Since there hasn't been too many B-mode shows due to wind/weather, doing a combo show is a way for them to relieve their pyro stocks.

Disney makes their pyro orders months ahead at a time, so not like they can just refuse to get more B-mode pyro. It accumulates over time and they need to use their supplies, somehow

I think they have a policy for how long they can keep the pyro in the mortars since the B mode mortars always are loaded in it results them in doing both pyro modes once every week, I don't remember it being this frequent though in previous years.

Neither do I. Wasn't Both Modes of WJ more Rare in 2023?

We're going to be able to catch WJ just before things switch over to Halloween Time, but normally we view the fireworks shows at IASW. Do they have a Baymax launch in projections back there, or is it just the physical flight from the castle?

They should just have b-mode pyro always in the show, and then the shows more impressive.

So I'm seeing that Pixar Pals Parade is off the schedule as of August 4th, but they announced less than 2 months ago that there is a special DVC viewing area for this on Saturdays through August 30th. Also Halloween Time doesn't start until the 22nd. Does anyone know if this is really pausing that early, or if they might just be dropping to once per day while prepping the next parade? The only info I've seen about it so far is on the site that can't be linked.

I'm just worried as we moved up our trip a bit to catch this and WJ in addition to the beginning of Halloween.

I know WDW in the past has cut down of FOF shows as Halloween approached due to the drivers needing to also do nightly rehearsals for the Halloween parade. I would hope it’s just a reduction in shows. Something I learned while here is how the parade corridor’s direction, and the choice to start the parade at the Pier makes for a really poor viewing experience for that second show, the parade heads due East for much of its path which then requires viewers to look directly into the late afternoon sun. I thankfully realized this and went to view the parade on the short stretch at the end when the parade turns south towards Guardians. But they really should think about reversing directions, also choosing to have the parade path go E-W instead of N-S was a poor design choice.
