WDW during a Recession / Economic Downturn

A lot of them got Express Passes if their prolonged wait was due to issues with the ride.

Mind you this wait time was for one singular attraction which was Harry Potter. The rest of the park's rides did not have wait times anywhere near that.
A lot of the other queues were only 20 mins as they limited the number of guests to something like 13,000 by all accounts. It's a big shame that they didn't keep those in the Potter queue as informed of what was going on watching some vloggers comments who were in the queue.

Eye of the beholder , no more no less. Like Josh had stated the ones that visit Orlando will experience Epic and also other places ( ie Disney ). The Mouse always comes out on top ( ie annual attendance compared to Uni ).
The MK will retain the crown for attendance because Disney.

And I like the Frozen reskin, but we can’t compare the Frozen reskin to attractions like forbidden journey. There is no comparison; forbidden journey is vastly superior.

I honestly wish we could have a Frozen land redo like in Tokyo. I've seen youtube videos and they look amazing. My wife is pushing me a little bit to go somewhere out of our comfort zone for next year. But, that's just us. Nice seeing you again!

I've been here for 2 weeks and I can't believe how quiet Memorial Day weekend was. Almost everything was a walk-on. I think the longest wait I did was 25min for Tron and Frozen

Never purchased lightening lane and never plan to. Depending on how many days you have and how you time yourself, it's all very manageable. Although, I'm also happy and content if I ride not much of anything as the atmosphere and surroundings are priority for me.

Even Epic Universe was not as crowded as I expected. Ended up being the highlight of my entire vacation. Never thought my most magical day on a WDW vacation would come from Universal.

I'll be at Epic Universe in three weeks. Despite what the media tells you I believer we have been in a recession for about a year. I'm not at all surprised by the travel pull back. I've been expecting it along with everything else that's going on right now. If you can afford to travel and aren't afraid to leave the country there are a lot of great deals out there. You can even find deals domestically.

Q4 was positive so that's false.

When companies tighten their belts and strive for efficiency don’t count your chickens and think all offerings will be operational etc to include food and drink items on the menu.

Q4 was in 2024?

They also don't break down the domestic operations.

DCL is carrying a lot of the weight right now and the swamp is hurting. The only thing that's covering for them right now is the increase in guest spending caused by higher prices and upcharges like LL and parties.

Price increases…

Charging the people already traveling more at every turn…

…1 tad of a macro problem with that…

Why would she? This entire thread exists as an attempt to continuously validate a few people’s misleading narrative using rumors, half stories and falsehoods under the guise that this is some sort of public service thread. All while pretending it’s not entirely political. And it’s still here.

Do I contribute sometimes as a counter? Certainly. But I’m honest about what this is.
Hi! OP here. I started this thread out of genuine curiosity as to how park operations and marketing shifted during a severe economic downturn. My heyday at the parks, personally, was early to mid 90’s, then a respite for about two decades until we had kids (mid-2010’s). So, my park going years really were missed major economic corrections (post 9/11, “Great Recession”)

Nothing in the original message touches on the underlying cause (or attributable causes) for an economic slowdown, but rather how the Parks have combatted / sustained themselves during those times.

It may be that as adults some are taking more responsibility for their lifestyle and day to day spending. Our country is a slaves to debt personal gratification society where more than half of the population lives paycheck to paycheck. There are fellow neighbors that didn’t pass common sense 101 in college where they spend money they don’t have to try to impress people they don’t even like. A job loss, serious medical condition etc can sink a family into serious financial difficulty also with medical debt the number one cause of personal bankruptcy in our country. You could say we are the richest broke country in the world. Some maybe taking a pause in their discretionary spending and reevaluate lifestyle and make necessary and difficult changes to get out of debt or at least pay it down. This affects FL which the top two industries which happen to be low paying are agriculture and tourism. What does it tell you when 75% of luxury good buyers are from the middle class ? Clearly I would give them an F when they took common sense 101 in college.

That's very disingenuous to the thread starter and many contributors. There's plenty of posts that don't use rumours, half stories and falsehoods under any sort of guises as you claim. Your statement is accusing all 23 pages and their posts to be some sort of hidden agenda to validate some people's views.

Sure some posts are more political than others but then again if we're discussing possible reasons why some people aren't visiting then why try to hide the fact that some people don't like what's currently going on? We can agree that not every post is 100% accurate as some posts use media reports that we have no way of verifying as intensely as we'd like, however your accusation that "This entire thread exists as an attempt to continuously validate a few people’s misleading narrative using rumors, half stories and falsehoods under the guise that this is some sort of public service thread. All while pretending it’s not entirely political" is anything but honest.

You may have not intentionally lied but your statement in itself is completely wrong, your opinion as to why this thread was created and why every person has answered is just your opinion and can't be proven. When you say "This entire thread exists because ..............." those words mean the originator created this thread solely to get people's political views across, again where's the evidence of this? Have some answers hinted at some people's political views, I would say yes however that's not what you've stated. You've basically accused the originator of somehow lying with their intent on creating this thread and also accused many none political contributors of being political.

What I wanna’ know is, why wasn’t this thread started 4-ish years ago, when inflation hit 9.1%, gas was much higher, interest rates went way up, etc….?!
Why was it started just this past March…?!?!?! 🤔

Don’t gaslight me. It has nothing to do with the original post.

You could just admit that your statement about the reason the thread exists and being started as being wrong, which it is? You've not even had the decency to apologise to the OP whose taken the time to politely respond to your accusations?

I also don't like being accused of 'gaslighting', do you know what that even means?

Why it may have started and why it exists are not the same.

Would it make you feel better if I said “continues to exist” or “evolved”?

Then why say

"This entire thread exists as an attempt to continuously validate a few people’s misleading narrative using rumors, half stories and falsehoods under the guise that this is some sort of public service thread"

You've completely contradicted yourself there? You've not apologised to the OP who explained why you were wrong and you've accused me of gaslighting you?

Are you therefore blaming the mods for allowing it to continue to exist or to evolve?

Well, because I had visited WDW almost exactly 4-ish years ago (late May 2021) and the parks and resorts were much more robust and busy than they had in our early Covid trips. Revenge travel was starting and households were still utilizing their CARES cash and increased child deductions on vacations.

As for this timing, the market started dropping on early March of this year. It was not caused by an international terrorist attack or a worldwide pandemic.
