I've been busy with life lately, but are we talking about this somewhere else and we missed it? Shame they can't find a home for those 167 employees freshly laid off. It all seems a little silly for what is really just... a sandwich shop. 🧐

Earl of Sandwich will close its temporary location at Downtown Disney and lay off the restaurant staff to make way for a new Porto’s Bakery as construction continues on a permanent home for the nomadic sandwich shop at the Disneyland resort.

The Earl of Sandwich Tavern restaurant in Downtown Disney plans to lay off 167 employees and permanently close its temporary location in the former La Brea Bakery at the Anaheim outdoor shopping mall next to Disneyland and Disney California Adventure.

The layoffs were announced in a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) letter sent to state employment officials on May 29.

Layoffs will start on July 28 and end by Aug. 10, according to the WARN Act letter.

The Earl of Sandwich temporary pop-up trailer installed in 2024 on the west end of Downtown Disney next to the Star Wars Trading Post continues to operate, according to the Earl of Sandwich website.

A new two-story Earl of Sandwich location under construction near the Downtown Disney performance lawn will include a quick service walk-up counter, sit-down Earl of Sandwich Tavern restaurant and an upstairs cocktail bar.

They couldn’t wait till the opening of the new shop? Seems like a waste of time to lay off workers.
They were already on borrowed time, as they weren't even suppose to be in that location very long. Porto's has been the one delayed, so now that its ready to go the next domino must fall. And that project looks to take a long time 1+ year, so the sooner they can get started on Porto's the sooner it can finished, now looking to be fall 2026 is my guess.

I suspect they won't be laid off very long, as the new location for Earl's looks to be ready to go by fall (they are about to start enclosing the building and move to the inside), maybe November at the latest for opening? So I suspect many (that don't find other jobs in the one or so months between layoff and recall for the new location) will be back for training in October. And possible they can juggle shifts in the other temp location.

Seems dumb, but I would imagine it was EOS that made the decision to lay off the employees, not Disney itself.

Brady MacDonald reports the temporary Earl of Sandwich at the former La Brea Bakery location will close on July 26.

The permanent Earl of Sandwich currently under construction will reportedly open this winter.

Earl of Sandwich has set a closing date for its temporary location at Downtown Disney while also setting an opening date for a new permanent home for the nomadic sandwich shop now under construction at the Disneyland shopping mall.

The temporary Earl of Sandwich at the former La Brea Bakery location on the east end of Downtown Disney will close on July 26, according to company officials.

The Downtown Disney restaurant will be demolished to make way for a long-promised and oft-delayed new Porto’s Bakery and Cafe.

The new permanent Earl of Sandwich location under construction on the west end of Downtown Disney will open this winter, according to company officials.

I appreciate that DLP's Disney Village is building a brand new McDonalds then knocking down the old one for more retail but McDonalds is no longer at any of the domestic resorts

McDonald's food quality in France and Spain is next level compared to the US.

I don't see anything wrong with having McDonald's or some US chain once or twice when abroad. It's fun to try the unique items and frankly the quality is typically much better than it is here.

Where I take issue is if people only eat stuff they would eat at home and absolutely refuse to try anything new. Even worse if they force their entire travel party to follow the same eating habits they have for themselves. If you're flying around the world but the only thing you'll eat is chicken tenders, that's when it gets embarrassing.

After watching a lot of videos on different places to eat in the Caribbean before a cruise, I stepped off in St. Martin and saw a Wendy's outside the port area. I thought of making a YouTube channel called, "I won't eat that."™

It would tell you were all the fast food or Americanized food are in foreign lands because I won't eat that.

I don’t take issue with what other people choose to eat. Actually I regret not trying the McDonald’s in Paris - would be fun to try some of the items there now that I think about it. Next time!
