News Avatar Experience coming to Disneyland Resort

Hmmm, is that a bad sign for those of wanting a drop? I imagine the drops would be small enough to where that won’t matter? On another note why would I be more disappointed if Coco had drop than if Avatar has no drop? I think it’s because with Avatar I’m expecting a more dynamic ride system making the drop less important. They re also smaller and more controlled with the Shanghai system correct? Assuming they go with that.

There’s the backwards explosion moment, but that’s not really a drop in the sense you are seeking.

I think there’s a problem with the boats plowing water and causing flooding with this system. Don’t cite me exactly on this. But it doesn’t really necessitate a drop ala Frozen or POTC. The forward propulsion, spinning and turning make it exciting enough compared to a traditional boat. That only ever zooms if it drops.

Ok so I think I was on the right track. Coco not only needs the drop more but it would be more of a fun traditional drop.

Does anyone actually think Hollywoodland is worth saving? I don't mean to be insulting if there are genuine fans out there. But for years I've seen nothing but complaints about the area.

Maybe my sense of scale is off, but why not re-theme the entirety of Hollywoodland to Avatar? Do we really need to keep Philharmagic, Award Weiners, Animation Academy, and Schmoozies? IMO this stuff should be on borrowed time.

Edit: Also, are there plans for the Hyperion I'm unaware of? Really, I just don't get saving any of this.

If it still had Tower of Terror then yeah. I do wish they'd put an old Hollywood dark ride in it where the Hyperion is, but I think HWL is for the birds at this point.

Not the land so much as the layout. I like the flow of Hollywood Blvd from BVS and the Hub. It’s also hard for me to imagine what you could retheme Hollywood Blvd to that would be worth while? You’re talking about a strip of land at this point and the Hyperion if you want to be generous but that’s most likely staying put or going to Marvel. Hollywood Blvd is a long straightaway and fully exposed from the hub so what can you put there that wouldn’t be jarring?

Anything else, to be honest. I find Hollywood Blvd so ugly.

Before we had any details on the Avatar "experience," I pictured/fantasized about a hub/Adventureland-style transition from Carthay Circle to Pandora. The 1920s theming would just kind of end, and there'd be a bridge over a small pond that leads into a jungle.

IDK. It's not like I have any better ideas. Maybe keep the same layout but re-theme the buildings to match the sensibility of Buena Vista Street? BVS is so charming.

The thought of Award Wieners being around in the 2030s just upsets me.

lol @ the award weiners comment. Yeah I’d be for giving the blvd the BVS treatment. That’s makes me the most sense.

No, it could certainly go eventually. Not sure what or how.

The animation building is a shell of what it once offered.

Now that Monsters is closing it'd be nice to see a small dark ride replace the animation building.

Also has anyone thought about what the back of the avatar rings will look like? Carsland and Star Warsland give me little hope that it'll be little more than exposed steel covered lightly with cheap materials. Long gone are the full 360 builds of Matterhorn, big thunder, space mountain and too a lesser extent splash mountain

It’s fun to armchair imagineer… when it’s based in reality. What could a landlocked straightaway street fully exposed and in full view from the hub be rethemed to? Aside from BVS which is what they should do but isn’t really much of a retheme. Marvel “New York” Street? Also consider Cathay isn’t going anywhere.

they never themed entire showbuildings just the part that guests can see from inside the park lol. 360 builds only apply to attractions guests in the park can walk/ride a train around.

I really dont understand how people cant comprehend the difference between the 2 lol.

As a non-Californian, I thought the Carne Asada fries from Award Weiners were solid. But I'm not really a hot dog person and I've seldom seen anything else on the menu, so I don't really understand the appeal.

I don't think Ive ever had a hot dog there. Maybe a bite of someone else's and I don't think it was bad. There again I'm happy with a Costco hot dog with mustard on it. They had a Philly Cheesesteak seasonal item a few years back that was really good with the film strip fries. Like real world good. Not theme park good.
