Observed today at he Smithsonian American History Museum. I had no idea The Muppets were as old as Disneyland. The show’s removal continues to sadden me.

Nonsense of the highest order. If either party wanted to work on taking IP's from each other they could arrange it.
But they don’t want to. That’s kinda the whole point. OLC wants exclusivity and Disney is happy to let them have it.

Disney does not own the Tokyo parks. Thar is a critical peace of the puzzle. It is purely a licensing deal. They have control of the IP only. They do not have control the attractions beyond designing them. Once that ride’s open, it belongs to OLC. They paid for it, they operate it, they own it. Disney agreed to that over 40 years ago and that included an exclusivity deal that they’re happy to honor.!

That means they can build a BatB attraction elsewhere but it cannot be Tokyo’s.

As for the tourist question, Tokyo Disney Resort is one of the most visited resorts in the entire world. So yes, they do have a valid reason to want exclusivity. Especially when they are not the only Disney resort in Asia.

When OLC built their version of a Disney-themed park, they specifically asked for clones of Disney rides.

So much for "wanting exclusivity."

You're taking bits of information and overgeneralizing it.

@lazyboy97o can speak to this better, but I believe he said (and I believe what he says) that exclusivity clauses are not universal. There may or may not be one for a new ride, and the length of exclusivity isn't always the same.

So, we don't know (unless an insider who knows chirps up) if there is BatB-ride exclusivity, and if there is, how long the exclusion is.
I don’t recall where unfortunately but I have heard six years as a quoted number (and that would make sense as I believe Shanghai had the same deal for one of their newer attractions).

It is true that it may not be universal.

That said, I do think it’s clear that OLC has a preference for exclusivity and I’m sure they have used their influence as the owners of the resort to encourage Disney to allow them to maintain it. I mean, there’s gotta be a reason they have never cloned Pooh’s Honey Hunt and by now I doubt seriously it has to do with money considering that technology isn’t as cutting edge as it was when that ride opened.

The agreements exist, at least where some attractions are concerned. But you’re right in that it may not be universal, and the terms may vary. I would be shocked if BatB wasn’t locked down for a time.

But even if it wasn’t…Disney’s not gonna spend that.

I’m speaking solely of Tokyo originating attractions. Rides that started at that resort. Of course they have rides that were cloned to them.

Though it seems they’re also wanting to dump their clones if Space Mountain and the potential Adventureland Massacre are anything to go by.

Domestic Disney ain't too afraid to touch 'classic' attractions either.

And they've been spending a ton of money to remove/retheme them now

speedway, astro jets, space mountain, buzz, jungle cruise, tiki room, treehouse, railroad

Things have obviously changed since 1983 and exclusivity has become a priority

Disney really doesn't know how to do "meta" humor nowadays. The "you're a princess" joke in Moana was cringe-worthy. And the less said about the Chip and Dale movie the better.

Agreed, so much. If Disney never made another meta thing/reference ever again I would be so incredibly happy and not miss it one bit. It's never funny or fun, and hasn't been since Emperor's New Groove (2000).

I blame this in part for the Muppets losing popularity. That was largely their thing but now meta crap is so common it's not novel anymore. You have the terrible films that want to be Rodger Rabbit but forgot the "actually good" part AND large amounts of films made that don't have a meta premise still feel obligated to toss in some stupid comment because that's just baked into their formula now. And a lot of things just use the same "jokes" that're just acknowledging tropes.

I found this but I have no idea of its credibility.

You wrote that their was a “very public contract.” Can you link to that? I’d very much like to see it.

I'm okay with that. Tokyo's Beauty and the Beast ride isn't that great.

Don't a lot of the modern Marvel movies have a lot of "meta" humor in them? If so, I feel like their success might be part of the reason why "meta" humor is EVERYWHERE now.

This is something that pleasantly surprised me about the new Country Bears show. I was expecting there to be meta humor and instead we got actual jokes.

the first step for the resort was cloning attractions to bring the American culture of theme parks to Japanese audiences. Once the resort had an established popularity and fan base the second step was to make the resort unique and become the best international park/resort the world- especially with DisneySea.

Im sure if you wanted to find a source you can easily look it up online. I believe Sully would not like to engage with your comments on this platform so I wouldn’t bother. This is nothing against you as a user or anything but just pointing out the obvious

I doubt it can be “easily” found online. I can keep trying but all I’ve found so far is the secondary source I posted above.

Beauty and the Beast needs to be demoed and the land behind the theater should become an attraction. I think it could house a Fantasyland-style dark ride.
The BatB ride in TDL is very underrated by park fans stateside. It doesn’t come across as well on video but the motion of the teacups helps you get through each scene. I had the pleasure of experiencing it in person two weeks ago. Absolutely my favorite ride at TDL it would make for a great addition to MK as the ride matches MK’s grand scale.

Oh I would love to have this in MK's Fantasyland.
