I finally saw this tonight with my spouse and MiL and we all enjoyed it quite a lot. Despite all the discourse, I didn't really quite know what I was going to get, but after the first couple of minutes I just thought, "Okay, it's a broadly-played, big, stagey musical. Got it." and was entertained throughout after that. I thought both Gadot and Zegler worked in their roles and there were plenty of laughs.

From a modern perspective, the original doesn't have enough story to hang a hat on -- it's really about the iconic imagery -- so the expansions here felt warranted with plenty of nods to the source material intact. The design of the dwarfs was indeed a bit off-putting, but if they're going to be the source of a lot of pretty extreme visual gags (just like in the original) you almost have to do it that way -- I don't think Three Stooges-style buffoonery would've worked as well.

This movie deserved better, and I've given up trying to figure out what the people looking for solid family entertainment find acceptable anymore. Is it the greatest movie in the world? Of course not, but neither is the vast majority of family movies (including a majority of Disney's back catalog).
I’m certain most of the people complaining haven’t seen it.

Tried to watch Snow White last night. Wow that was bad. What in the 90s Disney channel / straight to ABC movie was that? Actually that’s an insult to the 90s Disney channel movies. There were some gems there. My Date with the Presidents Daughter anyone? The Garbage Picking Field Goal Kicking Philadelphia Phenomenon? Any Tony Danza fans in the house?

Those silly Evil Queen musical numbers make me worried for Villains land.

It had the same soulless, made by committee feel that Wish had. Except worse because it’s Live Action.
Snow White oddly enough felt more like a live action remake of Wish than a remake of the original Snow White. Snow White's confrontation with the Evil Queen and rallying the Kingdom to take a stand against her reminded me very much of Asha inspiring the Kingdom to stand against Magnifico.

The songs feelings more like pop numbers than traditional musical numbers added to the "Wish" vibes.

Oh you mean the "Characterland with heroic qualities but whom are also flawed or morally ambiguous" Be afraid.

lol yeah. Let’s not take the live actionMaleficent approach here. They really need to lean into animated Maelficent, the Wicked Witch, Chernabog tone. Ursula and Hades are close enough where they can be massaged to be more like the others. Scar in the “Be Afraid” setting seems like the sweet spot that would go really well with dungeon motif from of the villains mentioned above and Hades underworld. Maybe Jafar, preferably in his red Genie or snake form. Even Lady Tremaine in the right setting and if executed properly. I’d stay away from the likes Hook, Yzma, Queen of Hearts, Mad Madam Mim etc. Or at least no more than supporting roles in the background or for a tad bit of comic relief.

well we just sat down & watched it, & i can see why it failed. it’s just not good at all. found it to be lame, overall. it’s only saving grace is the hi ho scene. it was pretty catchy. this was a 1 & done & i feel lucky to have made it through it all.

It was good. 7/10

It wasnt the best but it also wasn't the worst live-action. The settings look kinda bland despite being expensive, but for children they work.

The standout is Snow White and her songs.

Full warning, I haven't seen the movie, so my view could change after watching it.

But is anyone else numb to all the CGI used in movies? Why CGI the animals? Why CGI the background? Every time I see it, I can't help but notice it in my head. What's the point of live action? Couldn't they get a real deer? Again, this is only based on the trailers. Maybe they do use real animals and real world settings. I also feel this way about other movies, not just Disney. Did Disney film in a real castle? I don't know.

Honestly, the movie E.T. looks more realistic to me.

It’s difficult (and probably cruel) to get a real deer to do the washing up. There’s much the film can be criticised for, but given what the animals are expected to do, I really don’t think one can reasonably have expected them to be real.
Chimpanzees are incredibly smart and are known to use tools for finding food, water, cracking open nuts/fruit etc. Washing dishes would come easy for them.

Are you seriously asking why they have to use CGI animals in a movie.
