Ideally they would hire and keep better talent. Not sure if Kevin’s retirement was forced but I’ve always guessed it was.Guess they should stop writing new shows forever huh?

It seems like your setting yourself up for disappointment with that kind of thinking.Eh…. It’s not just cause “muppet fans” - I could care less about Bugs Life as a franchise but there’s nobody as clever as Kevin Rafferty left at WDI - so there is no way that zootopia script is going to be as good.
You really think Disney has any writers as clever as Bill Prady!? And directors as creative as Jim Henson?
No, just realistic. Happy to be proven wrong. I’m one of the few who is pretty satisfied with Country Bears - so that team is quite good.It seems like you’re setting yourself up for disappointment with that kind of thinking.
Pfft. Crazy wannabes. Come join the O.W.C.A we offer paid internships now!
Where does $19Bn come from? I haven’t seen any reliable lifetime merchandise sales estimates since around 2011.Is 19 billion dollars not enough for you?
That's more that Harry Potter ($7.11 billion), Spiderman ($14.526 billion), and Looney tunes ($16.777 billion).
I'm sure some of the numbers are outdated... but its a top 20 merchandising franchise of all time even at the 19 billion number.
I think a lot of current Imagineers grew up with this film and hold a lot of reverence for it and will do it justice. You all love to harp on how young some Imagineers are now. Well this is where that comes in handy. With nuDisney and this current crop of unImagineers, what do you think?
Monsters Inc remains one of the single most popular IPs in Disney’s library to this very day. I’m really not sure if you just don’t know anybody who grew up in the 2000s or you’re ignoring them because it doesn’t fit your narrative, but this movie has endured with those kids and that is evidenced not only in the depth of social media culture around it, but also in the sheer volume of merch it moves to this day. When the D23 announcements came out, this was one of very few things that actually got coverage in mainstream media that doesn’t typically touch on theme park news and the reason for that is because Monsters Inc. is just absurdly popular. For a franchise that hasn’t been relevant for more than a decade that no one cares about anymore.
Sort of like Cars.
Hmmmmmm
I said nothing about cleverness though. Just that there will be a new show. I’ve already shared that I don’t think we will see a replacement as clever MV3D. I’m more open to ITTBAB as it wasn’t my favorite show. Zoogether will be different than ITTBAB but could work. We shall see. That one song was a bit cringey…….Eh…. It’s not just cause “muppet fans” - I could care less about Bugs Life as a franchise but there’s nobody as clever as Kevin Rafferty left at WDI - so there is no way that zootopia script is going to be as good.

I think it’s been explained at length by multiple folks now how popular and beloved Monsters Inc still is.I’m still just confused about anchoring all this on a movie that is 24 years old and honestly doesn’t age as well as the hand drawn classics. The kids look downright scary/other worldly at this point.
More popular than stitch?I think it’s been explained at length by multiple folks now how popular and beloved Monsters Inc still is.
It's not more popular than Stitch but I'm sure the same people complaining about Monsters would complain about Stitch also.More popular than stitch?
If a 13 year delayed sequel can become the third highest grossing movie of all time I imagine someone out there cares at least a littleDoes anybody care about Avatar in a theme park setting? The DAK land is nicely done - but do people care about the franchise like Harry Potter, etc.?
I would think based on how I see either one engaged with that Stitch is probably more popular as a single character but Monsters Inc is more popular as a film outside of it’s characters.More popular than stitch?
How are you gauging this?I would think based on how I see either one engaged with that Stitch is probably more popular as a single character but Monsters Inc is more popular as a film outside of it’s characters.
And somehow we’re still waiting on a permanent replacement for HISTA…They want a new show. Just like they did for HISTA and ITTBAB.
I mean, if they put TTBAB in the theatre, it wouldn't fit the land, but would certainly be an improvement over MV3D. People seem to forget that MV was a quick appetizer to what was supposed to be a main course attraction. It's not Henson's opus. There is nothing they can put in that theater that will justify cutting MV3D. I can say that with 100% certainty.
That’s very much an opinion, not a fact. HahaI mean, if they put TTBAB in the theatre, it wouldn't fit the land, but would certainly be an improvement over MV3D.

Maybe? But reverence suggests an unhealthy (and undue) appreciation for the franchise. Jason Reitman clearly revered the Ghostbusters source material and Harold Ramis - that doesn’t necessarily translate to a great product.and hold a lot of reverence for it
Very debatable. I have no doubt the Imagineers who created TBA loved PatF and the concept art they were handed for the planned D+ show. I’m sure the Imagineers who designed the new Villains show loved the notion of the villains. I’d be willing to bet the Imagineers who worked on the Starcruiser likewise loved The Last Jedi. But look what we got.and will do it justice.
I know this post is gonna de rail this chat but actually hope (even though Disney can't move a ride like a carnival) that they rip out star tours and rebuild Mike and Sully from DCA in the plot of land and retheme Coke stand to monsters
