DHS Monster Inc Land Coming to Disney's Hollywood Studios

I feel like most fans of the film would recognize Needleman and Smitty (they're even in the Laugh Floor, albeit only as a voice-over).

I suppose the Harryhausen's octopus chef would qualify as well?

I think it's likely we get an AA of sorts of the Yeti and Roz, the GA loves them too much to skip those. I'm just curious if Disney thinks other monsters justify an AA.

Like, example: Berk! Cloudjumper has an AA, one of the main character dragons, Stormfly has a meet and greet because she's Astrid's dragon, Snow Wraith is a surprise because that's from a TV show can't say much there. They obviously gave the "big stars" AAs/more intricate stuff and left a bit of easter eggs in the land of other dragons fans would know.

But outside of the 23-19 orange fuzzy guy, does Monsters Inc have any characters that fall in "not a main character but people still know them" area that'd push Disney to make an AA?

Monsters Inc fans love George (the orange monster that gets a sock on him) like you said, as well as Needleman and Smitty.

You’ve also got Fungus (Randall’s assistant), Yeti and Charlie as side characters that appear a good bit but aren’t mains.

In the world of bit characters, there’s the news anchor, “shook me like a dog” monster (HUGE meme), Ted, the monster with their eyes popping off are well known, the baby that bites Mike, and Ms. Nesbitt (the daycare lady).

Monsters Inc is FULL of fit secondary and bit characters that can be spread around the land in many different ways, and most of them have specific gags that go with them (like the blob monster that falls down the storm drain).

I really think a lot of you are underestimating how much this land is going to resonate with people my age. Monsters Inc is a huge part of middle Gen Z culture and really always has been. For a lot of us its the first movie we really remember. The memes and jokes from it have survived the 24 years since release. We love the world and the characters deeply.

Maybe it’s not going to be everyone’s thing, but I don’t think it’s a mystery why of all the things they announced at D23 this land is the one that got viral social media coverage and was getting covered in places that don’t normally touch Disney Park news. It’s just that popular with my slice of the generation, and we just so happen to be who Disney is most courting right now because we’re at the age now where we can pay for our own vacations.

Personally, I love Monsters Inc, so I am excited for this. I just wish Muppets didn't have to go for it to exist.

I'm sorry, I still can't believe The Little Mermaid continues, and The Muppets are getting removed.

Especially stupid in that we have a Little Mermaid ride in the Magic Kingdom now, I really don't think we still need the show.

I'm also frustrated that Launch Bay and the Mickey Shorts Theater are sticking around while Muppets closes. Somehow, I doubt they're more popular with guests than the Muppets are.

You've also got characters from Monsters University and Monsters at Work, too.

Okay, this is a scandalous take. I know. But if Muppet Vision really is sadly going away (sigh) maybe they should consider getting rid of the theatre building all together.

Hear me out:

1. They already have the new Mermaid Show, Villains, BatB, Indy, and Frozen. Yes a 3D movie is different but they are still passive experiences in a park that is changing its identity from how movies are made to experiencing the movies.

2. Do they have anything dreamed up that will beat Muppets? I highly doubt it.

3. By removing this and the store, it really opens up this mini land quite a bit. Maybe we could get an all ages flat ride or two? Or a playground experience like they used to have with Honey I Shunk the Kids or what was shown in the concept art?

Just thinking out loud. DHS is a great park but really could use some more rides or experiences all ages can enjoy. It would also give something for the littles to do while big bro and big sis ride the new Doors Coaster.

Gonna back this up by saying that "shook me like a dog" has incorporated itself into my daily vocabulary. If there is merch for that guy I will show up and buy.


Also, if the theater was demolished, would it be big enough for Ride and Go Seek? Probably not but I can dream.

I mean, at DCA I miss it only because TTBAB is gone and PhilharMagic makes the Hall of Presidents seem exciting.

Muppets was a cute show, but pretty mid when comparing it to other 3-D shows. It was better than Captain EO and PhilharMagic but didn't live up to TTBAB or even HISTA.

Yeah, don't get me started on EO, lol. And then they brought it back for 10 years just to fill the space with something . Smdh that was awful.

They have shows in DHS but MuppetVision is the only one that is a constantly running show without set times (well except for the Mickey shot movie but that’s kind of lame).

Nothing wrong with shows in general but continually running ones dramatically improve a day at a park due to their availability.

DHS is the worst park to visit purely because it only has rides with long lines and ancient shows.

Unless you pay extra for the skip the line passes. Which is the reason why they're building another ride with long lines.

Oh yeah - I really like the monsters dark ride at DCA and think it’s better than the mermaid dark ride which has a much bigger budget.

Disney could be adding a monsters inc. area AND adding an additional muppets attraction to DHS.

Instead we are part of Iger’s cut and paste theme park project yet again. Maybe he could take up scrap booking?
