Eh…. It’s not just cause “muppet fans” - I could care less about Bugs Life as a franchise but there’s nobody as clever as Kevin Rafferty left at WDI - so there is no way that zootopia script is going to be as good.

I think a lot of current Imagineers grew up with this film and hold a lot of reverence for it and will do it justice. You all love to harp on how young some Imagineers are now. Well this is where that comes in handy.
Monsters Inc remains one of the single most popular IPs in Disney’s library to this very day. I’m really not sure if you just don’t know anybody who grew up in the 2000s or you’re ignoring them because it doesn’t fit your narrative, but this movie has endured with those kids and that is evidenced not only in the depth of social media culture around it, but also in the sheer volume of merch it moves to this day. When the D23 announcements came out, this was one of very few things that actually got coverage in mainstream media that doesn’t typically touch on theme park news and the reason for that is because Monsters Inc. is just absurdly popular.
I said nothing about cleverness though. Just that there will be a new show. I’ve already shared that I don’t think we will see a replacement as clever MV3D. I’m more open to ITTBAB as it wasn’t my favorite show. Zoogether will be different than ITTBAB but could work. We shall see. That one song was a bit cringey…….
I think it’s been explained at length by multiple folks now how popular and beloved Monsters Inc still is.

It's not more popular than Stitch but I'm sure the same people complaining about Monsters would complain about Stitch also.
If a 13 year delayed sequel can become the third highest grossing movie of all time I imagine someone out there cares at least a little
I would think based on how I see either one engaged with that Stitch is probably more popular as a single character but Monsters Inc is more popular as a film outside of it’s characters.

I mean, if they put TTBAB in the theatre, it wouldn't fit the land, but would certainly be an improvement over MV3D. People seem to forget that MV was a quick appetizer to what was supposed to be a main course attraction. It's not Henson's opus.
