DHS Monster Inc Land Coming to Disney's Hollywood Studios

Fountain still running.

You know, I’m not opposed to Monstropolis, as it’ll be a massive upgrade, but it is a shame to lose a well-themed area when there are so many other parts of the park that need work.

I wonder if we'll see permits for this soon.

It's still fuzzy to me why we got so much detail (through the permits) for Tropical Americas, but nothing for Frontierland + Monsters Inc. Maybe they will still come? @DCBaker?

The most detailed drawings that are published are water management permit submissions. They are only sought when there is a need to change how water is handled, the primary cause being an increase in the amount of impervious surface in an area. There are also two ways that permits can be sought, by using specific calculations based on specific footprints or more generalized calculations for areas. The latter is generally for when design is not yet far enough along but there is a desire for site work to start but in the case Disney they’ve also taken advantage to keep specifics under wraps.

Tropical Americas is reusing an existing area and isn’t making major changes to the overall area design in terms of water flow. It’s easier to just use the actual footprints and compare them to show what and how the water management is changing. There is also less need to start site work early or keep the layout secret.

Frontierland utilized the general area calculations because the work is significant enough that it is going to overlap continuing design work which is not firm enough to do the required calculations. The general calculations also keep the layout secret.

Monstropolis has not had water management permits filed and likely will not because it is reusing existing structures and an asphalt parking lot. That’s all impervious surfaces for which permits have already been issued. If anything, the removal of a building may even result in less impervious surfaces in the area.

I don't know if anyone mentioned this but apparently one of the new directional signs they replaced MuppetVision 3D with "Ice Cold Hydrolics" which seemed weird as I didn't think it was spelled wrong on the actual building....and it isn't....the new sign is wrong. Shoutout to everyone's favorite Pizzerizzo fan Alicia Stella

There will never be a worthy successor to Muppet*Vision 3D.

That said, if they are going to utilize this space for a show in Monstropolis, it had better be a full performance of "Put that thing back where it came from or so help me-"

In-theatre effects, live performers, animatronics, the works. Also, yes, the entire show name had better be present on park maps and directories for the sheer ridiculousness of it.

I have to hot takes
1. I agree it's going to be really hard to top Muppetvision however if they wanna try, I require top notch animation, tons of animtronic monsters, and sully to run around the theater like Sweetums did. Also while we're at it a quick*ss score by Micheal Ghiccino.
2. I actually am flexible on if they bring back Muppetvision or not to the park. Rather I hope they just have some type of Muppet show/experience near their new coaster, wether its a brand new show or just Muppetvision im flexible on

My problem with this is that, if they do a different show with the Muppets in this park, you’re inviting comparisons to MuppetVision. It won’t stack up. Not only do people have 34 years of nostalgia for MuppetVision to cloud their judgement, but people are also really cynical about modern Muppets.

They can’t post anything on social media without people complaining about Vogel’s Kermit voice. Dave Goelz is getting older and unfortunately it comes across in his voice. Rizzo is nowhere to be seen. The cards are just stacked against the current crew to compete with what Jim was able to accomplish.

That’s a horrible idea.

Unfounded, but my fears are this: They will go soft on theme for RnRC using the adjacent building as their justification in doing so. They will create a thematic throughline directly tying Rock n RollerCoaster and this new hypothetical Muppets show as sympatico, companion attractions. Rock n Rollercoaster your way to a rock concert with next door attraction being that rock concert. It's the kind of creative laziness that I've come to expect. A sounds good on paper until the realization sinks in that it's just more of the same. The better choice (again basing this on nothing but a hypothetical) would be tonally different attractions and with different storylines. Distinct, and unique from one another. In short, putting MV3D there would be the smarter move, in this instance. A Battle of the Bands or some silly rock show featuring Electic Mayhem, while fun, would be a redundant, thematic throughline rending BOTH attractions less engaging. Does this make sense? It's all hypothetical what iffing. It's late and the delirium is setting in.

What thread is this again?
