DHS Monster Inc Land Coming to Disney's Hollywood Studios

Waldo being annoying doesn't make this change any better. It doesn't justify them throwing it away like this. Not entirely sure why people are suddenly acting like the world is a better place because this one random, annoying character won't be bouncing on people's heads anymore.
I don’t think anyone has said that here?? It’s just a funny light hearted subject in the face of people musing about the attraction for what it was. Everyone just saying “man sucks that muppetvision closed” or “Disney doesn’t know how to do the muppets right” while valid gets a little stale as it’s been the conversation since it was announced to close. This is just a fun detour and refresh on the subject

Is everybody forgetting Waldo's first appearance in The Jim Henson Hour (which predates MuppetVision)? Here's video of Jim Henson performing Waldo.

I don't think anyone forgot about it. A lot of people may not know.

What is fascinating to think about is the tech goes all the way to motion capturing and Jim Henson projects like Sid the Science kid and non Henson projects, ironically enough, Monsters Laugh Floor with real time rendering of digital puppetry.

But of course he was not the character he was to be in Muppet Vision at that time.

Bill Prady specifically worked on Jim Henson Hour and fun fact, after theme park work he would do sitcoms including Dharma and Greg and Big Thang theory. So he knows all about producing intentionslly annoying character foils.

I'm more sad to see MuppetVision go than I thought I was going to be. I enjoyed it more than I ever have on my last visit back in January.

But man, I really would be lying to you if I said I wasn't excited to see this project get underway. I have been dreaming of this land for quite literally most of my life. I really can't wait to finally get to experience it for myself. This land alone may take Hollywood Studios from being a park I mostly don't respect to a place I genuinely love being in.

Just a reminder, everybody - MuppetVision closed, but Launch Bay, the Frozen Sing-Along, and the Mickey Shorts Theater continue to exist. Where's the justice in THAT?

I really hope that's not what the theater show turns out to be. We already have the Disney Jr. Dance Party, but even ignoring that, it would be a horrible replacement for MuppetVision.
Well Frozen is great. Fun time, very entertaining, great people eater.

I agree the Shorts Theater is well past it's prime and Launch Bay is too (though it is coming next so we won't have to talk about that forever). Frozen ought to stay though.

Do you think Disney will put Waldo in the Monsters Inc area and then you will get to play:

I think this video captures exactly what's (was) wrong with the attraction. This video from 37 years ago where Waldo was being developed on a 5 1/4 floppy disk. While this was 'cutting edge' in 1988, now it looks cheesy, played out, and well, cheap. I grew up with the Muppets. Saw their movies, had a Rowlf doll when I was 8. But the lack of updating just because they are 'celebrating' Jim Henson somehow, by never improving the show... well.. I really don't want to spend $4k on a vacation to see crap in a 4D theater. I want to see boundary pushing technology that wows me. Stuff that is 30 years ahead of being released to the public to buy. While some people may look at Muppets 3D as nostalgic, it doesn't resonate the same as going on Peter Pan or Snow White as an anchor to the park. Muppets is in the same vein as Captain EO in my eyes. Good for its time, but not timeless.

Love when people use examples of like 3 things that were announced and ended up not happening as undeniable proof that something else won't be happening to back their baseless allegations

I also can list 100s of things that did open as announced as a counter argument for this made up situation lmao
I don't think it's crazy to suggest Disney has overpromised and underdelivered on some of their more recent things (aka final versions not living up to the designs shown), but I wouldn't jump to the conclusion that they are not going to do something either. I think based on history, it's more than fair to be skeptical that the theater will have some great viewing with all sorts of extra elements, but I also would be surprised if it didn't go at all. I can't imagine them opening one attraction in an entire mini-land.

Waldo I can take or leave. But Statler and Waldorf need to find a new home to heckle; I'm thinking Laugh Floor would be the perfect heckling spot.
[Statler] "They say the monsters use laughs to power their town"

[Waldorf] "With this act? Get out the backup generator!"

[Both] "Oh hoh hoh hoh hoh!!"
