News Avatar Experience coming to Disneyland Resort

So I think it’s confirmed now between the news that it’s only taking a “portion of the backlot” coupled with the fact that Disney has always called Avatar an “experience” and never a land means that the Avatar ride/ mini land is going to be part of Hollywoodland. Sounds like this is how imagineers are trying to make sense of it being in DCA. Which maybe is just because of the fact it’s borders current Hollywoodland because otherwise why Jump through hoops when Mission Breakout exists in the same park? Anyway, crazy if true as the land lost not only the Red Car but its anchor with TOT and will somehow survive with this new direction. This is also tells me that no park name change is coming. Those new signs at the Hyperion told me the same thing.

And I’m totally good with Hollywoodland surving. I’ve always said Hollywood Blvd should remain or be absorbed by BVS. I enjoy the animation academy lobby/ building and it’s nice to still have a theatre of two. With that said I would sacrifice Hyperion for the right attraction (especially if it’s just going to sit around vacant) but I think the Sunset Theatre should stick around.

All the vloggers are asking why we got all this news on DLR and questioning if this a punch/ tickle situation by Disney. Not realizing the punch already came with the ROA/ Riverboat closing announcement a few days ago.

I agree. The new tiny glances at what the current thought is from imagineering are leaning that way. The new images are suggesting a MUCH smaller scale area while the original overview images had more water, features, several buildings/structures. The the new tidbits (in particular the monorail track apparently not moving for me) are suggesting we may be getting an Avatar attraction covered in massive rockwork with some very minor water features and a few plants NORTH of the monorail track (or at least with the monorail integrated into its southern edge).

I have a feeling the rockwork and the area is a lot smaller than we originally thought. It wouldn't be hard to imagine this around the size of Sleeping Beauty's Castle. Could be larger but it certainly doesn't have to be Spaceship Earth-sized.

I think the layout is going to be more like this:

I just painted right over the image you provided, Moonraker. (Disregard the bits of Pandora rockwork running along Harbor.)

I think they're going to keep the monorail right where it is, and all of the rockwork is going to obscure it.

Any idea how this area compares to Shanghai pirates?

This sucks. I want an epic Avatar attraction, and I want every inch of Hollywood/Backlot burned to the ground. We really can’t part with Award Weiners?

I think the only part of the actual backlot that remains will be the Philharmagic theatre. I also suspect Disney might be using Hollywoodland and “backlot” interchangeably. Vloggers have been doing the same thing for 2 years now.

I’ve noticed the interchangeability as well. Very confusing/annoying.

Will the Hollywood and Dine foodcourt building survive?

Also why did Djsney announce this last year? Wouldn't it have made more sense to wait til this time?

When will this be ready 2030?
