MK Cars-Themed Attractions at Magic Kingdom

Why do people tend to always talk down about today’s imagineers when they are just following directives set by management ?
This 100%! I wish everyone would understand these decisions are NOT made by Imagineering. They are given orders by park executives. They are the ones who decided they wanted a cars attraction in Frontierland. They are the ones who decided they wanted the river gone. These are not Imagineering decisions.

I fault Imagineering on execution. And it's usually warranted.

That’s p

That’s perfectly fair. Once these larger decisions are made by park executives, critique away.
After Epcot's World Celebration I think it's more than just the executives. There seems to be a lot of internal political fights with imagineering that have bubbled up too much and that was a giant result of that. Design by a dysfunctional committee. I don't doubt there are some individual contributors there that are great, but I think the whole org is rotten now. The state of the "Imagination" pavilion is a good measure of how it's doing.

My God it's not like WDW doesn't have the space to add new things --no they would rather rip out classics --SAD

Adding an attraction with self-driving vehicles, does not alleviate the need for an attraction with kid-operated vehicles. I hope that Speedway would be replaced with something that gives kids control (albeit limited) over the vehicle.

I recently watched kid after kid THRILLED to have just "driven" old-time cars ....

.... at Six Flags!

Which is long overdue. Unless they are going to update it, which seems unlikely given they are showing zero interest in doing so.
I know a lot of people don't like the speedway... but
The LLs for it on average sell out before: small world, carpets, buzz, Pirates, barnstormer, mermaid, Dumbo and mad tea

Right now it actually has a longer wait than HM, Carousel, mermaid, people mover, barnstormer, pirates, mad tea, dumbo, buzz, and small world

(Yes i know capacity can play a big factor is both of these).

The Speedway is due to be replaced with a futuristic riverside walk. They will add aluminum panels to the Liberty Belle to give it a whimsical futuristic vibe and offer rides. Sadly the peoplemover will have to go to allow the boat to fit.

I'm kidding, but it feels like they would consider this to appease those unhappy about the losses around frontierland.

I know you're joking, but the Riverboat will not reappear anywhere in any form. It's ... just too ... well, it's so ... 19th-century.

If you know what I mean. Yucky.

feels like the time to have done that was when they shortened the track and put in Tron ... I think retheming the speedway to make it look Tron-like and be electric, etc would have been great, but they didn't and it does seem rather out of place

on the flip side it is my 13-year old sons favorite attraction at WDW (he did it 5 times our last trip) and I know he isn't alone in liking it as still has demand - just feels very dated

Yeah the kids do love it. I don’t even necessarily think it needs to go away completely but a major update would be good. If they’re never going to do that then perhaps the space can be better utilized

I just don't know what they'd be able to build in the space of the speedway if it's not going to be a ground level attraction.

A big show building wouldn't fit in there.

Design by a dysfunctional committee. You nailed it!
