Shouldn’t the powers that be at a multi billion dollar company be able to differentiate between the crazy stuff and when the criticism is warranted? Take the decision to turn the ROA at MK into a Cars ride for example. You have not only a huge portion of the fan base but also former star imagineers saying it’s a bad idea and yet they seem to be full steam ahead. You even have a large percentage of typically Disney can do no wrong vloggers that are not afraid to say this is a bad idea. You even have Forbes getting in on the action. So if they still want to blame a few crazy “tree huggers” for their poor decisions that’s on them.
Of course they should be able to differentiate between valid and nuisance complaints, but I don't think it's crazy to say it's likely a contributing factor to their approach.

I don’t think it’s crazy. I just think it’s more of an excuse on Disney’s behalf rather than a contributing factor. If it even factors in at all.

To Universal's defense of Hollywood, the park is a working studio first and a theme park second. They did just build a lot of modern sound stages and studio infrastructure in order to make the studio efficient and to free up theme park land. I see phase 2 beginning with the new hotel at the front of the park and more theme park at Falls Lake.

USH has an interested couple of years ahead of it imo. I never really liked the park much but the last couple of expansions have been mostly good. SLOP is a pretty solid mid tier and much needed dark ride NintendoWorld is colorful and a well loved IP (even if i think MK falls short and the land is too small) and the FnF coaster will almost certainly be great. Universal knows coasters so I bet its fantastic and a much needed addition to the park as well.

Phase 2 like mentioned earlier with the New hotel (though im not to keen on the design and placement) and future expansion....Looking pretty good IMO. Plus USH is so easy to get to for LA/SFV people

In Orlando, Rip Ride Rocket closes forever at the Studios park on August 18th. I’m kinda hoping its replacement is more family-friendly, but I’m thinking they probably want to keep a major thrill coaster in all three parks. Whatever it is, I’m certain it’ll look better than RRR. How could it not???

Like the Simpsons plot at USH, that seems like prime real estate for my Ghostbusters themed drop tower. Not quite “family friendly” but a 40inch height requirements beats whatever it is currently for Rip Ride Rocket which I’m assuming is 48 inches +

They have two drop towers next door at IOA.

Does anyone have any insight on how well attended (or well viewed, internally) the Fan Fest events were? Circumstances aligned in a way we couldn’t go, but would hope to in future years of offered.

I'd say they were a huge success. Some friends of friends worked them and were promoted within the event to creative directors. It was like launching a second HHN, scaled down in terms of crowds as well as themed experiences, but I think the price point was decent and delivered a lot more than what Disney has been doing with their after hours events. I definitely see it returning.

Scarier than Tatsu and Goliath and much scarier than Riddler’s Revenge. But in a different way— Aside from the moment when you go over the top hat, Velocicoaster isn’t about height—It’s designed to give tons of very forceful ejector airtime and hangtime throughout. Every hill, every twist and turn, all four inversions—It all tosses you up (or down when you’re inverted😃) off your seat, with the lap bar being the only thing stopping you from becomng a projectile. It’s relentless, intense and wild. (And very smooth and comfortable, too!) From the moment the first launch starts to the brakes at the end, there are no lulls or moments to catch your breath, and it keeps building in intensity right up to the finale.

And what makes it extra scary is the seat design. The cars have no sides and the seats are raised high enough off the floor so that your feet dangle in the air. All you feel, security-wise, is the seatback and the lapbar. So, when you go through that finale roll over the water, you feel like your head is the pointed end of a pinwheel blade spinning ‘round while simultaneously the ride forces are trying to hurl you out of your seat and all you feel is the lap bar stopping that from happening.

All brilliantly engineered for safety (heed the warning sign out front) and cunningly designed to play extreme mind games. 😃

Very intense g-forces throughout, which is why I probably won’t ride it again at my Medicare-qualifier age. 😃 But it is an amazing creation.

I loved reading this analysis - made me want to go get a lap in haha. Can we get a similar write up for what you expect from FnF?

I’m waiting to see it test-running.😃 Right now, if I try to even guess at what it’ll feel like, I can only come up with a blend of Velocicoaster, Cosmic Rewind and Ride To Happiness. 😃

RRR is the only ride that's scared me. I had my restraint tight enough, but at the end of the slow-moving loading station, a CM pushed the restraint down tighter. I thought I was fine but when we hit the bottom of every hill, I couldn't breathe at all. At the top of every hill, I'm huffing and puffing to get some air then down we go, nothing's going in or out.

One and done for me.

Yikes, that experience sounds awful! I’m looking forward to seeing how quickly Universal makes it vanish—Which makes me realize the ONLY thing I’ll miss about it is watching the final helix beside the Citywalk pathway. It’ll be weird to not have that there anymore. Maybe Citywalk’s Cinnabon can relocate to that spot!

Im pretty excited about the park’s future beginning with Fast and Furious. Too bad they didn’t keep up the momentum after opening Nintendo World as 2024 and 2025 have been pretty dry, not even a new Dreamworks Theater film (when is that gonna happen?).
