Did Mike White torpedo Rob C’s chance to play again?

Hmmmm….4 teams of 6 players or 3 teams of 8 players?Speculation today is there will be 24 players on 50, and the two unknown people are from 49. Survivor released a video teasing that there is a secret number of players for 50.
We voted on three tribe colors, but nobody knows if one of those is the merge tribe.Hmmmm….4 teams of 6 players or 3 teams of 8 players?
It's clear they waited too long to do returning players. They shouldn't have waited until a huge milestone, because it feels like it should be true legends. They should've have another all star season around 45 or 46 to scoop up the one-timers they missed between Game Changers and now. From seasons 35-49 the only chance players had to return was 40, but only if they were winners. And then the captains season for Edge of Extinction. No really only three players got the opportunity if they hadn't won. There are way too many players that they need to bring back from those seasons, which makes casting 50 a mess of those players and also trying to represent early eras.
I had heard that originally Survivor wanted more new era players, but CBS pushed for some old school players, presumably Colby and Ozzy. I know Jeff/production didn't want Ozzy for Game Changers, but CBS made them. I'd assume production hasn't had a change of heart. They committed to diverse casting starting with 41 so that may have played a factor. They couldn't do a predominantly white cast like Winners at War was.
From what I've read the original plan was focused more on the past but CBS pushed the new era. I get it, it's a TV show first. The show got some attention and ratings this season due to the Joe & Eva storyline. Joe is a player with classic casual appeal. It's like why they brought in fire making, to get more winners with broad appeal. CBS sees the new era as being a draw.
I do wish they'd thrown the hardcore fans a bone with the obvious choice of Rob C. Imagine him and Penner on a tribe together. They're funny and charismatic.
However, if the goal is to bring some older viewers it's no surprise Colby is back. People who haven't watched in years will instantly remember him. At the risk of beating a dead horse, the only better draw would have been to include Jerri.
Jeff said it was tough cutting the last 20+ people so maybe they'll see the enthusiasm and give us a returnee 52 with many of those players.
Mike White will be one of the more interesting players to watch. Does his celebrity buy him loyalty? Jeff has already said he'll be aware that the hope of the White Lotus cameo will pay off. Is that just potentially bribing fellow players with the promise of a free vacation somewhere exotic? Or will he be targeted early as someone who doesn't need the money?

Rob C would have made so much sense. Penner is a bigger stretch, but he would have been great. Likely the last chance we'll get to see him play. Rob could have another chance or two, but this milestone would have made too much sense.
It feels like they wanted a milestone, but also just a regular returnee season. Which again, shows that they waited too long.
I think the majority of these players would have come back. I think the only one that could be a question mark is Amanda. Maybe Kelley Wentworth, but I think she would for 50.
I know she's had interest in Australian Survivor, and had forgotten that she was offered less. I did listen to that podcast, though.Kelley said on RHAP she was in talks for AU vs The World, but turned it down in part because she was offered less money than other contestants.
Survivor AU pays appearance fees.

It sounds like US Survivor also may have paid appearance fees on minimal occasions in the past, but it's not advertised. I can't remember what the deal was with that, but I thought I remembered something being said around Winners at War. Maybe it was that they were increasing the amount each player would earn, even if they were voted out first.
I agree with those who say, who do we really want back from the 20s? Andrea for me would be a lock, but outside of that, not much. Most of the names are winners from WaW. Spencer? Pass. Kass? Maybe. Kelley Wentworth, yes. Malcolm, yes. There are some other names, but they're not 50 material. Like Josh or Reed. The dark ages took place in the 20s, and it shows in the lack of viable returnee options.I'm okay with a returnee season -- but if this season was truly "in the hands of the fans" - a clear vote by fans would have made it much more agreeable. Separate the eligible contestants into 3 categories, each with 8 available slots: Seasons 1-19, Seasons 21-39, New Era 41-48 (NOT 49!)
