Speculation today is there will be 24 players on 50, and the two unknown people are from 49. Survivor released a video teasing that there is a secret number of players for 50.

In case you can't wait until tomorrow, that is the confirmed cast, and there will be 24 people playing. Its been confirmed by well-known insider, Martin Holmes, aka Redmond.

Joe - I like that he is back - but 48 shouldn't have 3 returnees.
Kyle - I like that he is back - but 48 shouldn't have 3 returnees.
Kamilla - I like that she is back - but 48 shouldn't have 3 returnees.

Christian - YES!
Devens - YES!

Charlie - Yes.
Jonathan - Yes.
Colby - Yes.
Emily - Yes.
Stephanie - Yes
Chrissy - Yes.
Genevieve - Yes.
Jenna Lewis - Yes -- would have been even better should it be someone who didn't play twice, but love a super old schooler none-the-less.
Dee - Yes.

Mike White - Sure - (below Yes, higher than Meh)!
Tiffany - Sure.

Coach - Meh.

Ozzy - No. Mt Rushmore on Survivor, his current lifestyle is just absolutely too weird for me to get behind, and absolutely Survivor fatigue when others could have repped.
Q - No. Clearly on for entertainment factors, but couldn't stand how dumb he came across with decision making.
Cirie - No. I get she's probably on the Mt Rushmore of Survivor, but so many other people are deserving for a chance to be back.
Angelina - No. Just seemed absolutely clueless out there (which I know is probably overboard considering how far she made it).
Aubry - No. Overplayed & we saw an iteration of her not too long ago that didn't need to be rewarded again.

Shocked by about half of this list. What happened to folks like Mike Turner, Jesse, Carolyn, Shan and WHY were people like Jenna Lewis (really scratching my head) cast? And Jonathan? He was a complete dud.

The only thing that could make this season worthwhile is if either Cirie, Christian, Emily, or Aubrey were to win.

Here's my excitement ranking for having each player back. I'll rank them out of 5. A three is average, 1 is not excited at all, 5 is super excited.

Jenna - 4/5, she was a big part in both her seasons and will come to win, not make friends. Good TV.
Colby - 2/5, 30 seasons ago we questioned whether he had enough in the tank. His character has never been why I watch.
Stephenie - 4/5, she's a legend and totally makes sense for this season. Fan favorite back in the day. Clearly still capable of doing it.
Cirie - 4/5, I love Cirie, but she's played a lot. I will always enjoy watching her, though.
Ozzy - 1/5, Not my cup of tea. He was a dud in Game Changers. He's always seemed arrogant to me. I don't care about challenges.
Coach - 4/5, He also makes total sense for a milestone season. Likely the last we'll ever see of him. I'm interested to see what he can do.
Aubry - 4/5, I love Aubry, but also her performance was dipped each time she's played. I'm hoping a layoff will help her out, since she played 3 times in 6 seasons previously.
Chrissy - 3/5, I would have been more excited if it hadn't been so long. At this point I've lost my Chrissy hype, and there would've been better picks than her.
Christian - 5/5, Love Christian, makes total sense to bring him back. Fan favorite, good player.
Angelina - 5/5, I love Angelina. She's a fantastic character, and I love watching players like her. She had good plans in DvG, but didn't have the social skills to get them done.
Mike - 5/5, Never though we'd see him again, but I love Mike. He should've won DvG if he hadn't essentially told them to vote for Nick.
Rick - 1/5, I didn't care for him. I found him obnoxious and arrogant.
Jonathan - 1/5, They clearly love a "type", and it's not the same I like. They catered a LOT to the casual viewer.
Emily - 4/5, I like Emily, but also wonder if he story arc was finished after one season.
Dee - 5/5, She played the best new era game IMO, and it'll be interesting to see how she does now that others know it.
Q - 2/5, Big character, but he's not my cup of tea.
Charlie - 3/5, Makes sense to bring back, but he's just another player to me.
Tiffany - 3/5, I like Tiff. I think she has huge potential and could actually win 50 because she's underrated. I just don't know if she's milestone material. She'd be better for a different returnee season.
Genevieve - 5/5, Maybe the player here I'm most excited to see again. She's got Parvati upside, but could also be an early target.
Kyle - 2/5, We just saw him. He's a good player, but not overly fun to watch.
Joe - 1/5, We just saw him, and I'm not sure what else he offers. He screams one-time player to me.
Kamilla - 2/5, We just saw her. I like Kamilla, but have similar thoughts to her that I did Tiff. Would be better returning on a non-milestone season.

It's clear they waited too long to do returning players. They shouldn't have waited until a huge milestone, because it feels like it should be true legends. They should've have another all star season around 45 or 46 to scoop up the one-timers they missed between Game Changers and now. From seasons 35-49 the only chance players had to return was 40, but only if they were winners. And then the captains season for Edge of Extinction. No really only three players got the opportunity if they hadn't won. There are way too many players that they need to bring back from those seasons, which makes casting 50 a mess of those players and also trying to represent early eras.

They committed to diverse casting starting with 41 so that may have played a factor. They couldn't do a predominantly white cast like Winners at War was.

From what I've read the original plan was focused more on the past but CBS pushed the new era. I get it, it's a TV show first. The show got some attention and ratings this season due to the Joe & Eva storyline. Joe is a player with classic casual appeal. It's like why they brought in fire making, to get more winners with broad appeal. CBS sees the new era as being a draw.

I do wish they'd thrown the hardcore fans a bone with the obvious choice of Rob C. Imagine him and Penner on a tribe together. They're funny and charismatic.

However, if the goal is to bring some older viewers it's no surprise Colby is back. People who haven't watched in years will instantly remember him. At the risk of beating a dead horse, the only better draw would have been to include Jerri.

Jeff said it was tough cutting the last 20+ people so maybe they'll see the enthusiasm and give us a returnee 52 with many of those players.

Mike White will be one of the more interesting players to watch. Does his celebrity buy him loyalty? Jeff has already said he'll be aware that the hope of the White Lotus cameo will pay off. Is that just potentially bribing fellow players with the promise of a free vacation somewhere exotic? Or will he be targeted early as someone who doesn't need the money?

I had heard that originally Survivor wanted more new era players, but CBS pushed for some old school players, presumably Colby and Ozzy. I know Jeff/production didn't want Ozzy for Game Changers, but CBS made them. I'd assume production hasn't had a change of heart.

Rob C would have made so much sense. Penner is a bigger stretch, but he would have been great. Likely the last chance we'll get to see him play. Rob could have another chance or two, but this milestone would have made too much sense.

It feels like they wanted a milestone, but also just a regular returnee season. Which again, shows that they waited too long.

Knowing it's a 24 person cast, here's my somewhat realistic dream cast for 50, off the top of my head:

Men
  1. Rob C
  2. Penner
  3. Christian
  4. Malcolm
  5. Sean
  6. Earl
  7. Coach
  8. Domenick
  9. Mike White
  10. Omar
  11. Jesse
  12. Yam Yam
Women
  1. Genevieve
  2. Carolyn
  3. Andrea
  4. Kelley Wentworth
  5. Jerri
  6. Dee
  7. Amanda
  8. Vecepia
  9. Eliza
  10. Stephenie
  11. Natalie Bolton
  12. Angelina
I think the majority of these players would have come back. I think the only one that could be a question mark is Amanda. Maybe Kelley Wentworth, but I think she would for 50.

Half of the cast is worthy of being on the 50th season while the other half is crap.
Worthy:
Angelina
Dee
Chrissy
Christian
Genevieve
Emily
Devens
Cirie
Aubry
Charlie
Joe
Kyle
Crap(or has beens)
Colby (has been-no longer and threat and never a strategist)
Stephanie (been too long and is now forgotten)
Jenna (should never even have been an all star)
Jonathan (horrible player)
Coach (has become a parody of himself)
Q (ridiculous)
Mike (too much fame as Lotus writer-should have been Davey)
Kamila (nope)
Tiffany (would rather have seen Kenzie)
Ozzy (never, in all of his seasons, really understood the game-WAY overrated)

Should Have Been Cast
Shan
Jesse
Carolyn
Rachel
Mike Turner
Dominic
Davey
Wentworth
Omer
Malcolm
Rob C (although he's pretty much friends with everyone who has ever played so it may be an unfair advantage)

I must have got it backwards in terms of who was pushing for what.

Part of me feels like anyone pushing for Colby and Ozzy hasn't seen the show in decades and just remembers those big names.

I'm a little surprised they didn't get cold feet with Ozzy given his career choices.

Kelley said on RHAP she was in talks for AU vs The World, but turned it down in part because she was offered less money than other contestants.

Survivor AU pays appearance fees.

I know she's had interest in Australian Survivor, and had forgotten that she was offered less. I did listen to that podcast, though.

It sounds like US Survivor also may have paid appearance fees on minimal occasions in the past, but it's not advertised. I can't remember what the deal was with that, but I thought I remembered something being said around Winners at War. Maybe it was that they were increasing the amount each player would earn, even if they were voted out first.

yuck... I don't want to watch returning players. I would prefer brand new players - and no fire making, fewer rewards, only two tribes, plain idols - no other powers, puzzles to solve, etc. - just find an idol and use it (or go home with it). Oh, and a different location - somewhere cold?

I'm okay with a returnee season -- but if this season was truly "in the hands of the fans" - a clear vote by fans would have made it much more agreeable. Separate the eligible contestants into 3 categories, each with 8 available slots: Seasons 1-19, Seasons 21-39, New Era 41-48 (NOT 49!)

The only one I recall hearing about was doubling of all prizes for All Stars other than the winner amount.

I wouldn't be surprised for something similar for WaW. I think I read they were guaranteed a fee for the reunion. Don't know how that differs. EoE also meant all players would get paid a certain amount for appearing in each episode.

I agree with those who say, who do we really want back from the 20s? Andrea for me would be a lock, but outside of that, not much. Most of the names are winners from WaW. Spencer? Pass. Kass? Maybe. Kelley Wentworth, yes. Malcolm, yes. There are some other names, but they're not 50 material. Like Josh or Reed. The dark ages took place in the 20s, and it shows in the lack of viable returnee options.

But a fan vote would have been a lot of fun. I'm surprised they haven't gone back to it after the success of Second Chances.
