I love that they are showing Wish some love. A beautiful film, with some great visuals and tunes. The hate for it was silly.

I also loved seeing it included in the new World of Color.
I think one of the reasons people hate Wish is due to the original concept actually sounding like an actually promising Disney film. There are some amazing concept art floating around showing how decent the movie was planned before Disney did changed during production.

What was the original concept?

While I forgot the details, besides originally planned to be fully 2D animated. I decide to list a few ideas from the original version of Wish that ended up scrapped.

1.) King Magnifico and Queen Amaya were going to be the first Disney Villain Couple

2.) Asha had more personality and was an apprentice while Star (known as "Starboy") was planned as a magical humanoid figure who is able to shapeshift who was set up as Asha's potential love interest. Star's human form was even inspired by Peter Pan

3.) Valentino actually played a bigger role in the film's plot and actually tolerable. Valentino wouldn't speak until the third act where he help Asha defeat King Magnifico who undergone a Villain Transformation (ala Dragon Maleficent, Giant Ursula, and Jafar's Snake and Genie forms).

There are tons of articles and Youtube videos which delved deeper into Wish's original storyline before it undergone changes during production. The original version had actual effort and didn't feel half-hearted.

I haven't even seen Wish. It just looked like Disney rehashing everything they've been doing since Frozen's release, except with a half-hearted attempt at cashing in on the success of Spiderverse and movies with similar animation styles.

Wish was solid - some of the songs were catchy, I loved all the Easter Eggs, it had a legit (if not the strongest) villain, I liked the animation style.

Definitely not an all time great Disney animated movie or anything but I enjoyed it and do think it will make for a good addition to a night time parade - this is a good place for Wish to have representation

Thank you. That doesn't change a lot for me, although the dual villain would have been different at least. I dunno. The whole idea seemed to be up it's own *** - a Disney movie made to celebrate Disney movies.

I thought Wish was better than Moana 2.

I liked them both but I think it’s staggering that Moana 2 made like $745 million more than Wish, when they were released just a year apart. There are fair criticisms of Wish but I think even the people who liked it least admit it was, at worst, just lackluster. But plenty of movies that are serviceable and not much else rake it in at the box office, especially with a Thanksgiving release date, tons of promotion, tons of theaters… I honestly think it comes down to “reasons that shall not be named on these boards”, nothing else makes sense.

I still find Jennifer Lee's reasoning for ditching the 2D animation style lame. Apparently they felt Star and the visuals would be hard to animate in 2D over CGI. Despite past Disney Movies and Renaissance Era movies showing that they are capable of creating beautiful visuals.

You felt Magnifico's Villain song to be legit?

Not to mention the duet song "At All Costs" between Asha and Magnifico early in the film was originally intended as a love song between Asha and Starboy. The demo version made the romantic elements more notable.
