Heading into our last two weeks of school (the busiest weeks of the year), and I normally get an hour of prep a day... these last 9 days, I'll get 1.5 hours. Instead they're taken away because of events, field trips, and meetings. :(

And this is why I stop doing full academics the last couple weeks.

Will there be a parade and/or fireworks on Monday in your town to celebrate?
Thank you!

I’m not really sure about fireworks here. It’s a very small village. I’ve joined a couple of local FB groups, but I haven’t seen any big announcements.

I’ll be working until 5pm. I don’t expect to be busy. I plan on sending out a zillion emails. It will take all day! (We’ve been told we can’t use mail merge anymore, so it will be one by one. So ridiculous, don’t get me started.)

He's a good kid, and they are good parents, but they need to actually teach life skills rather than do everything for him. He's not neglected or anything like that. But he's very unaware of his surroundings, can't zip up his jacket, struggles to put his shoes and socks on, etc. Again, because it's always done for him at home. But overall, he's the least of my concerns this year. I have far more significant behaviors in my class.

Next year's class is supposed to be better.
Well, then good luck! Hopefully next year will indeed be better!!

There was a reported shooting incident at the college right across the street from my apartments. It was first reported that it was a multiple casualty event, but that is still unconfirmed. I've heard reports of someone walking into a dorm and opening fire, and other reports that it was an insolated roommate incident. Police has lifted the shelter in place and have said things can go on as normal, but just avoid the dorm. We're still waiting for more information, but they say there is no active threat to the community.

This dorm is literally a block away from where I live. If there weren't leaves on the trees, I could probably see it from my balcony.

Yikes! Glad you are OK! Did they make you hunker down and stay way from windows? When I was in high school, we got a call one day in my senior year that someone on the next street was treating to shoot himself and we were told to get down on the floor and avoid windows in case of stray bullets and I wasn't allowed to go to school until the police gave the all clear. It's kind of scary even if you know it's not likely that you are in danger.

Poor E is stuck on a train right now because someone jumped in front of it. The news is saying it will take about three hours to get the train moving again and E said there are first responders all over. But they haven't been evacuated from the train. She was sitting in the front of the train and felt and heard the impact, but thank goodness she didn't see anything. She's shaken, but not as bad as it could be. But I hope they send a bus or something so she doesn't have to sit there until 8 before they get going and then she won't be home until 9. She has water, but no food.

According to the FDA, as of Friday, at least 26 people had been sickened by the outbreak in 15 states, including Florida, Alabama, California, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Colorado, Illinois, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, North Carolina, Virginia, and Tennessee.

I wasn't that close to the event. My parents house is up the street from the college, but a decent ways away. My apartment is a block away, but I wasn't home at the time. And at that point, I don't know how they'd tell us to stay in place. The students on campus were all alerted through the campus notification system that they needed to shelter in place.

There is still no official word on what happened, but two female students died during an "incident" yesterday afternoon. One was a RA of the dorms and had just graduated last weekend.

Unofficially, it sounds like a couple was fighting. The RA got a report of it, so she went to check on the situation. The guy shot his girlfriend. When he opened the door, he saw the RA and shot her, too. After he shot the RA, he panicked and shot himself. However, there's been no report of a male dying, but it was reported one was taken by ambulance to the hospital, so it's assumed he is still alive.
