Envelope test failed?
Could they be envelope testing AS they replace track is it seems to me that would be the time to adjust track, NOT after retrack is complete?

Yes but there’s no way it’s an exact match for a track that settled in for decades.

Yep. Anytime you have to remake footings it's going to be off a small amount from the original assuming they were trying to be as close as possible. They may have taken time to smooth out some turns or create some additional thrills (more angle drop or more whip when cresting a hill etc.) with the redesign.

They could just stuff in some folded up cardboard to level the new track to where the old track was.

I'm going to fly down to MK tonight. Will it be open?
That's how dealers for GM used to take care of squeaks on the new cars on the lot. They'd wad up cardboard and wedge it where they suspected squeak was at. Engineering at its finest.

wonder if the track is sitting higher or the envelope parameters got wider
Yes but there’s no way it’s an exact match for a track that settled in for decades.

Also possible that guidelines for new builds in 2025 are different than 1980.

Curious if there are any track profiling changes though. And if we're going to see new trains / new restraint systems.
